Hard to say Byrd would either, as small as he is, but getting him on the field is the only way to tell.

Yea, I dunno how tough Byrd is because we haven't seen.  But his height/weight is very comparable to Smitty and Smitty was one of the toughest SOBs ever.  5'9 185 is a LOT different than 5'11 or 6' and 185.  A lot tougher.

I have an eerie suspicion that Byrd will be on the PS, as well as Norwood if he's eligible still.

Bersin and Hill are going to have a tough time making the 53.

I think that Key and Brown stick, and of course Ginn, KB, and Funch are the penciled in starters...may have a random "IR" guy as well.

I keep on hearing about size , but what really matteres his route running ability , IQ , and hands. He has the speed to seperate from defenders ( can't hit him If you can't catch him) . Antonio Brown is 5'-10"  195 lbs but it's all of the traits above that makes him so successful not saying he will be AB but he can succeed if he improves in those other areas.

Smitty was tough because he was always tough. Byrds toughness is questioned because he hasn't shown to play tough.

In my own personal opinion, IF Byrd performs well in camp and preseason, he'll replace Ginn.  KB and Funchess are locks, no way Garrett makes it to the PS, Brown has been solid and serviceable.  He's still young, only entering his 3rd season, while Ginn is getting old, dude just turned 31.   So with that being said, in no particular order, KB-Funchess-Brown-Garrett-Byrd.

Not sure if he qualifies, but if he does, Bersin to the PS and maybe Norwood gets on IR for an "injury."

Slightly less bolder prediction....Damiere Byrd makes the roster over Corey "Philly" Brown. I also say that Garett makes the roster over Bersin.

I think we keep 5 on the roster, unless a 6th has ST skills.

He hasn't shown to play at all.  He could be Smitty tough for all we know.  I'm just saying Byrd is more compact like Smitty, rather than just skinny like Brown.

If true then Garett may be the odd man out along with Bersin.

I know.  All the fuss over TE has me thinking 5 WRs.    However, we keep guys like Teddy Williams, Colin Jones, and Mayo for special teams reasons.  If we could replace Williams with a position player, for example, we could carry fewer CBs and a sixth WR.

I really think we go:

Benji, Funchess, Ginn, Brown, Garrett, Byrd.    We may stash Garrett on IR, depending on what he does during Preseason.  Funny, but we are suddenly loaded at WR--or we should be.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
