CBS Sports: is Panthers gm ruffling feathers

In the big picture why is it accepted for players anf agents to actively boast about wanting to be the highest paid and then the agents get their feathers ruffled when a GM says he's not going to be the one to fall for it?

who cares? no one's going to not sign with us out of principle. agents are just pissed that dave dropped his dick on their desks and dared them to touch it.

Sounded like a side of beef slamming down on a butcher table.

Ok so let me get this straight, just because we now have a ton of extra money, we are just supposed to go out and blow it on some FA or give someone a massive deal???

This is what makes DG such a great GM and why assclowns like the author will never understand why the Panthers are successful.

A team still needs to invest their money to get a return for the future. Just sitting on a mound of money is pointless and unproductive. The Panthers do not even try to get value back for players they believe they will let walk under Gettleman's watch.

Like others have said, that's why peanut wants to play for us only and Jared Allen said it was the best locker room he's ever been in. It's odd, national coverage doesn't get this team. I swear us and rich eisen are the only ones who get this team.

The locker room is 'family'. The front office is 'business'. The front office is not even close to being considered 'family' by the players. There is a great divide and distrust between the two regarding the Panthers organization. The disruptive force on this team is squarely on the front office, and it continues to get worse.

Panthers don't sign big names to begin with so who cares

Panthers have trouble signing big names. It is not that they do not want to sign them in the off season - especially now with money to spend. Gettleman has consistently failed in negotiations with all of them. They have tried to land some, but it always falls through since Gettleman is now a target to be used as leverage by players/agents around the league. Not to mention most players/agents, if not all, distrust Gettleman. It would be very difficult to find player/agent who has any type of strong rapport with Gettleman.

Charles Johnson would have took more money to play for a shitty team if he wanted to stick it to Gettleman and didnt like him that much, speculation from idiots

Charles Johnson took less money to come back to be part of the 'family' and to give it one more year with a defense that was going to be the same. He was led to believe by the front office (like many of the other players taking a discount this season) that Norman was going to be around for at least one more season. They signed for discounts after Norman was tagged. Players/agents feel they were lied to and misled into playing for less this season. Some even believe the front office never intended to sign Norman if he would not give the team a major discount. They believe it was a ploy to get several players to stay with the Panthers and sign 1 year contracts for much less than what they would receive elsewhere.

It is only going to get worse with the front office. I just hope Cam, Olsen, Luke and Davis can continue to carry the team and win in spite of the front office's ineptitude during the off season.

Article talking about agents and players not liking Gettleman's recent comments.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/why-panthers-gms-tough-talk-after-letting-josh-norman-walk-isnt-such-a-smart-move/

So the talk by the Panthers GM that he won't panic and get emotional is making agents panic and get emotional?

Interdasting...

Seems to me we've just spent 15 mil a year on two critical contracts:  Kalil & Oher.

Those were two huge extensions that might have been made much more difficult by paying Norman while we're also still hoping to pay KK.   I for one thing a stable above-average Oline who have good chemistry with one another and Cam are quite a bit more important than 1 DB.

    • No saying he mostly sucks is saying that he doesn’t suck the minority of the time.   Like if he took 17 tests and had a couple of really good showings and a handful of pretty good scores sprinkled in among the typical sub par results.   Like a golfer who went out and shot an 89.  There will be some real nice shots sprinkled in there but at the end of the day it is still 89.
    • It's worth mentioning... Game 1: Oct 11 in Raleigh. 4-3 OT win with a complete starting lineup. Game 2: Dec 13 in Philly. 4-3 SO win without Jaccob Slavin. Game 3: Dec 14 in Raleigh. 3-2 SO win with a complete starting lineup. Game 4: Apr 13 in Philly. 3-2 SO loss with the AHL roster.  Those early season games were no indication of the Canes team that finished the season. Miller and Ehlers were still trying to figure things out, Nikishin was still a work in progress and the Stankoven line was just another line. Make no mistake, the Canes team Philly will see is nothing close to what they saw at any point in the season. If the top line starts producing, Freddie stays hot and the blue line does what it does, this could be a sweep as well.
