It isnt looking  very good for KK staying in Carolina. Gettleman wont be touching these numbers.

Indeed. We are absolutely not signing KK to an extension. Makes the Vernon Butler pick look genius. Star has a better chance of getting re-signed long term.

Short doesn't have the standing to expect a contract like Miller's. He'd be delusional to think so.

He wants an amount no where near what Gettleman will pay, and these numbers only confirm to him he should be asking a whole lot. Overall, this hurt's KK's chances of getting an extension. Depending on how well Butler plays it is looking more like a franchise tag next season for KK.

Theres a 90% chance of this happening and 100% chance the Huddle freaks.

Wilkerson's deal should be more relevant, and like Cox, it's at $17 APY.  Both are also younger, have better numbers than KK, and were already slated to make franchise/5th year option money this year, not KK's relative peanuts (which of course could be scrapped/increased if he gets his head out of anus).  Again, that, Butler, the Panthers on the cusp of a dynasty, and the lack of realistic or desirable options if he did hit the open market to make more than those guys mean anywhere close to $15 APY is a great deal if you're KK.  He needs that now more than we do.

Exactly. Why would he be comparing his contract to a 3-4 OLB?

That is about what KK should be asking for..37M in first 2 years, 54M in first 3.  It's really a 2 year 37M dollar deal that leaves some cap flexibility if you have to cut him after year 2.

DG will be looking at it as this type contract, or play out rookie deal, 1 year of the tag totaling about 15M over the next two seasons, then let him walk and pick up comp picks.

Short isn't likely to put up numbers like he did again. They are likely to come back down to earth and it's not wise to pay him astronominally at this point. It's like buying the biggest house at the peak of a housing bubble.

We know Gettleman isn't going to cave to the threats of a holdout also. He clearly stated this.

He's a rookie he probably will make little to no impact

I think given our DT rotation, he will.  I can see him being a big part of NASCAR packages maximizing speed on 3rd down.  Perhaps his stats won't be off the charts, but just having him on the field with his explosive movement and shiftiness could open up opportunities for others on the Dline.  They can't doubleteam all our guys.

he will play this year under his rookie contract.. i doubt we come to terms with KK before the season starts..

I'm hearing Butler ain't no chopped liver. What a smart pick.

I won't be surprised if we draft another DT with our first rounder next year.

    • The deep ball or at least the threat thereof is an absolutely essential component of success in today's NFL, and not the '20 air yard' nonsense that the NFL likes to push. Teams have to account for the field-flipping, immediate TD play or else they just sit on things. We've seen it for years now. And with respect to Brees, the latter half of his career has him as the ultimate short-game QB... and it still wasn't enough to overcome the best competition when it counted most. When that element went missing towards the second half of the 2010s they were still a deadly team when they had superior defense, but they ultimately fell to the best defenses.
    • Dude.. that sounds so sad.
    • Bryce either finds a deep ball this year or he doesn’t.  His success hinges on that entirely. is there a successful QB currently playing that doesn’t have an accurate deep throw? there are only so many underneath plays in a playbook. if that’s all bro can do, expect a pick 6 record. Defenses are too fast and smart. A devastating run game is going to 1000% have to be the thing that keeps defense honest if Bryce’s deep ball doesn’t improve. The importance of that one attribute can not be overlooked.  I so wish people would stop insulting Brees, a top 10 first ballot HOF’er with these stupid Bryce comparisons. Brees could drop a 40 yd DIME on a rollout or from shotgun.    I want the Panthers to win. I don’t care who pilots the ship. I don’t really care about any of the individual pieces.
