Tre Mason is insane

Tracked down by WPBF Florida on Saturday, troubled RB Tre Mason shouted "No!" when asked by reporters if he would show up to Rams camp.

While Rams camp is taking place in Los Angeles, Mason is spending his time in West Palm Beach. Rams coaches haven't had contact with Mason for seven-plus months. On July 27, Mason's mother called police because Tre was "acting unusual and making irrational statements." When they arrived, Mason told deputies "he would call the White House and have them fired, and that he knew police were responsible for teaching Al Quaida pilots how to fly." Police immediately took Mason to a hospital for mental evaluation.

Holy fug. Yeah he is mentally unstable. Probably will be put in an asylum.

He was the definition of sane and stable at Auburn (even when he was a back-up player).

He's eithering suffering from a late on-set mental disease, suffered from a particularly bad concussion that did serious damage to his brain, or he's chosen to partake of the wrong chemical compounds.

I've been following this and it just makes me sad. :(

Was my first thought. Troubled guy for sure. All this attention won't help.

My wife's nephew developed schizophrenia at 18. At first they thought he had gotten hold of a bad drug, blaming his friends, and were surprised when he was diagnosed. Turns out he had a little bit of history on his father's side. It sucks for sure.

An ex-player that comes to mind is Titus Young. His name pops up from time to time here derogatorily, but he has been diagnosed with mental problems as well (though not schizophrenia). I cringe when people make light of those with mental disorders because the problem of mental disorder is more prevalent than some would like to admit.

As for football, there is some thought that concussions can cause or trigger occurrences of mental illness.

yea some time this off season he seemed have a mental break and no one knew where he was for months at a time. its pretty sad stuff.

Thought disorders are especially difficult to manage.  One of the pathognomonic characteristics of a thought disorder is disorganized thought and a lack of self-awareness. I can't even imagine going through something like that.

When I first saw this thread, I thought it was going to be some incredible youtube clip of some amazing play by Tre Mason. It just dawned on me how cavalier we are with some of these terms, myself included.
