We Need To Add A Short Passing Attack to Our Offense

The blueprint to attack our offense is out, and it revolves around our philosophy of attacking downfield. It's beautiful when it works but like everything in the NFL it has a weakness, such as a being prone to stalled drives and pass rushes.

This game is entirely different if we can switch to a short passing offense when necessary but our personnel is not currently suited to it as it revolves around physicality not precision.

This means Cam needs to refine his short accuracy, Philly Brown needs to be used more, and even Bersin. Kelvin and Funchess need to work on their routes so they can be trusted to get open without space.

If we add this element to our offense we can punish teams who otherwise can take away our big plays, but it needs to be a focus going forward.

OR

we could act like there is still a football game to play when it's just the start of the 2nd quarter.

Yup panthers have folded like cheap lawn chairs in the 2nd half in 3 games now.. even vs SF they was making a comeback.

A quick short passing game relies on having WR's with reliable hands, which we do not have.

More than that, receivers who can run precise routes and Cam has to be more consistent with his footwork and ball location. This is why we don't call these kinds of plays, we haven't developed the necessary timing yet. But we have to, teams will continue to run this gameplan against us. Not all of them have the personnel to stop our big plays but those that do will be at a decided advantage.

this.

people seem to forget that the offense has been tailored (and personnel selected) to cater to newton's strengths.

newton struggles with short passes.

    • I don’t know about floor in a team defense sense but we needed more.  The floor that I am familiar with is our QBs floor and it is so low that every other part of the team needs to be beefed up.     We tried our best to improve these things and I think we did improve the defense and we at least kept the offense  from sinking from no LT.  And ostensibly helped the receivers too.   So we kept a window open that we at least have a chance to improve our record by a game of two.  Which would probably give us the division.

    • Yeah. I am one of. those who think a JAG RB can eat with really good blocking. (Brooks is most important in my mind, in tbe passing game and that is what we’ll lose without him)  There are a lot of aspects to this. The big one that caused us to struggle is Young and his arm scared no one.  Best back, best blocking still cannot defeat a really good defense if they are not forced to respect the pass.  And teams did not.    But, a strong OL and running game Can get us over against weaker defenses.  And if Bryce still doesn’t scare anyone we can still win some games. Like last year  So it is really important to tend to that OL.   Get that straight and see if in his fourth year he can finally back defenses off. That is what if is all about this year to me, on the Bryce front.
