We Will Beat Atlanta and Reclaim the NFC South for the Rest of the Year

I've been around since 2004 when this was Panthers Huddle, and I'm so convinced I will renounce all ties if this doesn't happen.

I can remember when Jeremy just lurked in the anonymous background as Zod, long before he became a respected and somewhat official member of the Panthers media. Before he perfected the greatest Panthers message board of all time.

When "Got Delhomme?" t-shirts were a thing. When "It is was it is" was considered profound and not just a nonsensical non-answer. When white people wore John Kasay jerseys b/c we settled for field goals and hadn't completely made up our minds on Steve Smith. When Jerry Richardson still showed human emotion (sorry JJR, always love ya).  When Mike Vick was an inferior version of Cam Newton. When people could still call Jon Gruden "Chucky" and people could get the cultural reference. When the Saints sucked as bad as they currently do before than bizarro period from 2006-2011.

1-2 sucks, but we are better than the rest of the NFC South hands down. I love this forum, and I love our team.

We're still an 11-5 team. We still have the best offensive and defensive player in football. We can still win SB 51 and forever honor Sam Mills and Jerry Richardson. Let's turn this ish around starting this weekend by avenging that stupid loss last year and beating the fug out of the Dirty Birds in the toilet thatis the Georgia Dome. Go Panthers!!

I admire the spirit, but we suck monkey balls this season. Even if we somehow win the division and make it into the playoffs, we're getting killed by the first team we face. We've lost our swagger.

I doubt it, we are going to have growing pains with loss of Veterans but by the time playoff rolls up this team will be in sync. I'll put money on it that we will make it to the NFC championship.

Man, got to love the optimism here!

Are some of y'all already talking draft and FA signings?

I will say I might join you if we do lose to Atlanta.  I don't think this team will.  I think they will buckle down, and pay a little back to Atlanta to help us get back to .500.  Then from there we're still one week at a time.

We lost some vets, we're not as deep as we thought we were (RB?  TE?  DE? yeah), but we still have Cam, Olsen, TD and Luke.  I wouldn't put it past us to become very good by the season's end and storm the playoffs playing spoiler all the way to the SB.  Or I could also see the team imploding in a "everything that was good is now bad" kind of season that seems to happen to most good teams every now and then.

This actually an important game to lay claim to the NFC South. It could give the winner the advantage for the season.

Oh, and 13-3.

    • Jamaree Salyer would be an excellent signing. I hope we are looking at him.
    • The Panthers are Pickett's 5th team in 5 years. Howell's next team will be his 5th. I don't think the league thinks that much of either of them. They're just warm bodies, at this point.
    • 10 players I wouldn't mind the Panthers signing that are still available:  - CB Nate Hobbs (Packers): Was just released this morning. Could be a very solid nickel upgrade for us.  - CB Kader Kohou (Dolphins): Solid slot corner who shouldn't break the bank and could be an upgrade over Chau Smith-Wade.  - OT Jamaree Salyer (Chargers): Had an underrated year with the Chargers (68.2 PFF pass block grade, 61.5 run block grade) and is still young enough (25) to continue developing.  - OT Jawaan Taylor (Chiefs): Depending on price, could be a good short-term option at LT while we figure things out long-term.  - WR Jauan Jennings (49ers): If we're going to add a FA receiver, I think Jennings makes a lot of sense but the price may be a bit too high for a slot receiver.  - WR John Metchie III (Jets): A cheaper option at slot receiver who has experience playing with Bryce at Alabama. Low risk/high reward type signing.  - WR Calvin Austin III (Steelers): Likely an "in between" option relative to Jennings and Metchie, but another solid option in the slot.  - LB Leo Chenal (Chiefs): I think we'll target another starting ILB in the draft, but we could also opt to pair Chenal with Devin Lloyd and check that need off the list early.  - OC Matt Hennessy (49ers): Could be a decent stop-gap starter at center and solid depth if nothing else.  - OC Andre James (Chargers): Was a backup last year for the Chargers (for some reason; he couldn't have been worse than what they had starting) but was solid for the Raiders the year before.
