Is Ed Dickson really better than Scott Simonson?

Ed was looking pretty good last week. If he were our first string TE he wouldn't be much to praise or complain about, he'd be probably middle of the pack. But let's face it, there aren't many TEs who compare well up against Greg Olsen. Ed's good and he has a lot of experience in our system.

Simonson might be good, but he apparently needs more work. Moving him down to the practice squad is a good move. TE just isn't a place of worry for us right now. We're pretty blessed there.

I look at them both as JAG right now. Simonson is unproven, and likely needs the practice to before he's actually prepared to be a pro. Dickson, though below average for a TE1, probably falls in line with most of the other TE2s in the league. Given that Dickson has the experience over a youngster who really hasn't proven to be anything special, he logically gets the nod.

Simonson sucks he has done nothing Ed shown some flashes

Shown some flashes? I like dickson but he is older and on the tail end of his career most likely. I know you're new but try to go against the grain and have some sense and reasoning when you comment

Dickson is lackluster overall, but Simonson has done nothing and shown nothing.

Regarding replacing Dickson: the answer is not on the roster.

The only TE that did show something (Lucas) was cut because we value strong blockers (Such as Mike Tolbert.......)

Seems like we could have worked with Lucas. Just another thing I don't get.

    • Obviously the new FO has only been in charge for a couple years but they have not broken from past trends.
    • Rookie Bryce: Mingo, Thielen, DJ Chark as his WRs ...we won 2 games.  2nd Year Bryce: XL is drafted and becomes Bryce's #1 target in 24...we won 5 games (kinda suprising tho) 3rd Year Bryce: Tmac is drafted and becomes Bryce's #1 with Coker in the mix in '25.. we managed to win the division and make the playoffs. ..8 wins 4th Year Bryce: TBD ..... but we do need another reliable option at the position. Maybe not at 19 (unless its Cooper or Lemon) but somewhere within the top 100.   We are one injury away from reverting back to 23-24 status or worse. And if we dont happen to get substantial gains after this draft atleast we'll have the offense in a great spot to drop in our future QB.  Tmac, Coker, Leggette, Horn Jr, Metchie. I'd be willing to rock with the above but they could def stand an upgrade. An argument could be made at TE too.
    • You're also underestimating Calipari in those scenarios. Calipari can say to a kid "I've put more impactful players into the NBA than any school over the last 20 years".  Michael Malone can tout that he was run out of the NBA for not understanding impactful players.  I wouldn't count any chickens yet on top recruiting classes and deep tournament runs.  On a side note, can't remember where, but saw some interview where the guy was saying the NBA All Star Game should be the USA vs World vs Kentucky - and then proceeded to list the players in the league from Kentucky who would legit give an All Star team a run for their money.  Pretty impressive what Cal did at Kentucky, not impressive on him not getting more nattys.
