The Absence of Kalil.

I know this team is going through a lot right now. Ups. Downs. The whole nine.

Some of you are like me and see this team and look ahead at the future. It looks good it really does, unfortunately the window will be getting tighter with key players more than likely retiring or  being let go.

Last night this team barely squeezed out a win, with several key players down or out. Last night I realized how much of a key piece to this offensive line Kalil truly is. He's probably the second most important cog to the whole Offensive machine. Cam being #1. But Kalil does so much that some of us don't realize how much until moments like last night. He scans and helps Cam with the protection, Cam dedicates his eyes towards the back part of the defense. As of late Kalil has been hit by the injury bug. It's rare to be honest since when he joined the league he has been healthy for most of his career. Like most of us know, age catches up to you. I'm not a fortune teller but my estimated guess is that he has around 4 more years maybe 5 if we're lucky. Centers like him are rare. I wouldn't be surprised if Gettleman pulls the trigger in the ealier rounds of next years draft for a Center. I know his M.O. has been BPA in his first couple of seasons, but he's shown that he ain't shy about addressing an issue through the draft. I.E. Norman (Bradberry looks like he's coming around finally).

Last night just showed how much we need Kalil. Replacing is not going to be an easy task. Draft, trade, or Free Agency. I just believe Gettleman should not be frugal at that position. Like he has been in others. I understand saving some dough, I'm also not saying go spend all the money. I am sure gettleman knows that he's more than likely going to have to spend some to get a decent replacement for Kalil.

Looking at the other needs for this team, I have a hunch all the money he has saved so far is going to be spent in the next couple of years on replacements for this team.

Next years draft should be TE/RB/DE/OT

You could see the line struggle without him against LA and KC the last 2 weeks.  He is incredibly important to the success of our oline, and its not going to be easy to replace an all-pro talent like that.  Drafting his future replacement should come within the next 2 years.

The team has a lot of aging stars and stopgaps to replace in the coming years.  Hope for solid work in the draft.

I somewhat agree. Although you could wait for RB and TE. The lines are more important at the moment. Olsen has several years left, DE is an enigma. You don't know what you get. There is no constant presence in that group. Need someone to step up and a draft pick would be nice. I would say C is high up there because of Kalil's injuries as of late and the fact that we don't have a suitable back up.
