I wish we could take Oakland's offensive line for ours.  That would be splendid.  It's crazy what signing high profile free agent Offensive Lineman, drafting O-Lineman can do for your line.  It's crazy isn't it?

Honestly we really haven't done that this year and it's been to both Cam's and our detriment. He's been extremely hesitant to use his mobility of his own volition and it has hurt us as well.

Getting him involved in the run game the past few weeks has been a crucial part of our success.

We just aren't a good short yardage team without him being a threat to run.

What I'm saying is that you can't win games with your qb as your best rusher. Look at the packers last night. You need a legitimate run game and what Cam can do on the ground can compliment that. I can understand around the goal line, but I'm tired of seeing qb power runs when we don't know what else to call.

That's cool... but our chances dwindle when he doesn't. Shula is too incompetent and our OL is too weak.

Look I'm not disagreeing with the fact we need Cam to run to have a chance. What I'm saying is that we have to put the players and system around him so that we don't have to depend on him in the run game.

I agree with this.

But, Cam needs to be more willing to run. He's a really good pocket passing QB when he's on. But he's the best running QB when things break down. Not sure why he's decided not to run anymore, or much less than before.

Then get Dave Gettlemen to give his coaching staff that option by giving them an OL that can run block.  Remove Cam and we would be then worse rushing team in the NFL this year.

Also, this year specifically running Cam limits the number of plays he sits behind a bad OL while guys tee off on his head.

I don't disagree with the thought.  But given what we got we really have to run Cam to have a chance

Cam has a reply to this.

Quote

"I would prefer to be involved in the (running) game, as Panthers, that's our edge," Newton said on Wednesday. "It's certain things as I look at quarterbacks around the league and say, 'Dang, I wish I could do that.' ... But my edge is running the football inside the tackle and when somebody tries to take that away from me for what it is, that's who I am. That's me. That's going to forever be my edge in the league.

"I'm trying to find any and every way to create edges for us. Whether that's me running around, me carrying out a fake or that's me blocking, I'm just trying to win football games."

    • It’s wild to me that so many of you guys are threatened by the idea of an opposing team fan who is polite in 2025. He’s been posting here on and off for years, usually when our teams play each other which hasn’t been for a while. I’d maybe understand this treatment if it was a falcons or saints fan, but packers fans in general are one of the nicer fan bases as long as you aren’t another NFC north team (especially the bears).
    • Some players excel on the big stage, while others freeze and succumb to the pressure. I’m not convinced Cam took a dive. I think he didn’t handle the stage very well. The pressure got to him and he folded. He wouldn’t be the first quarterback or player to struggle in a Super Bowl. Two HOF examples - John Elway and Jim Kelly. The 2002 MVP, Rich Gannon, threw 5 interceptions against the Bucs. Poor performances happen.  Unless of course you believe all these players threw the games they played in, but if that occurred, surely someone by now would have admitted taking a dive? 🤷‍♂️
    • It was always a matter of time with Cam’s playing style and a shorter shelf life than passers that protect themselves. I suppose Cam could have still been playing in 2028 ten years after the hit took place, but he would need to have evolved as a quarterback and become more of a passer than the dual threat maestro he was. It’s sad because it makes us think of what could have been, but I do feel it was always a matter of time until all the hits took their toll.
