When Rivera is let go, will any coaches stay?

First of all, no I'm not saying it will be this year, but it could. Rivera will not be the head coach of the Panthers forever, and it's looking like his tenure will end sooner than later.

There are some coaches on the staff that are promising. Ricky Proehl is one. The Panthers WR coach has done spectacular work getting the best out of journeyman Ted Ginn, getting a 1000 yard season from rookie Kelvin Benjamin, developing undrafted Philly Brown and super young Devin Funchess, and squeezing life out of old man Jericho Cotchery. I hope he can transcend the next coaching staff.

Another is defensive backs coach Steve Wilks. He has done a phenomenal job working with what is usually the least talented position group on the Panthers for years. He developed a "wild horse" Josh Norman into a shutdown corner, and this year has done great work with James Bradberry. His work in 2013 with a patchwork secondary of Melvin White, Drayton Florence, and Captain Munnerlyn as his starting corners might be some of his best.

Ken Dorsey is another interesting name. Cam seems to have a solid relationship with him. Could be interesting to see him get a shot at offensive coordinator these last four games if the team would finally nut up and fire Mike Shula. A losing season following a 15-1 Superbowl appearance requires a blood sacrifice, and Mike Shula will likely be it.

The correct question will be are there any coaches of merit willing to work with Gettleman?

Any HC willing to work with Gettleman will be an unquestionable downgrade from Rivera. I think a lot of you are forgetting just how bad a reputation Gettleman has around the league with players and agents.

The last thing a coach capable of replacing Rivera and bringing instant success to the Panthers at the HC position wants is a meddling GM who loves his projects and will not spend money on key upgrades when they are needed.

Good Luck and be careful what you wish for.

You may as well flush another 3 years of the time the Panthers have with Cam and Luke.

SM Jr will hopefully always have a job here.

I can live, as others have pointed out, with retaining Wilkes and Washington.

But if the cost of ridding us of Rivera is losing Wilkes and Washington?  Consider me sold.

Pretty sure Mills is the only coach from Fox's staff that the team asked Rivera to find a place for.

    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
    • Don’t recall seeing many of his interviews but what strikes me is that he engages and goes in depth. Even with the cliche answers as referenced by OP come across somewhat thoughtful.  Very likable personality despite being someone who can crush an average person like I can crush a paper cup. I knew Motons mother had a career at MSU but was looking on the google and found that Mushin Muhammad personally knew Motons grandfather.   His late grandfather was a professor at MSU.   Cool guy.  Interesting family and small world.
