Bradberry and Worley

How good are these two young bucks playing right now? I'm pretty impressed.

Since Bradberry came back from the turf toe injury, our secondary has looked pretty damn good.

Week 9: LA

top receiver, Kenny Britt 4 rec 49 yds 1td

Week 10: KC

top reciever, Tyreke Hill 10 rec 89 yds (did not play as good a game as the stats show)

Week 11: NO

top reciever, Brandin Cooks 7 rec 42 yds (first match 7 rec 173 yds 1td)

Week 12: OAK

top receiver, Amari Cooper 4 rec 22 yds

Michael Crabtree 8 rec 110 yds (a 49 yd catch on AJ Klein)

Week 13: SEA

top reciever, Doug Baldwin 7 rec 65 yds

Week 14: SD

top receiver, Tyrell Williams 2 rec 68 yds

other than Tyreke Hill, all the recievers mentioned above are top 25 in receiving yards currently. And, top 23 if you take out TEs.

Are these two rookies playing better or is it because of our DLine? I thought that there were plenty of times today that Rivers had no where to throw the ball to even with good blocking up front.

If we could upgrade Tre Boston next season I think it'll be fun to watch.

Will be tested in these last three games with high power offense.

It's not as simple as that, Bradberry isn't exactly asked to man up against the best WR each week. Bradberry is by far our best corner, and he is a pro bowl talent, but it's not exactly like he is single handedly shutting dudes down.

I understand. It's a system. But, Norman did it here too. I'm just saying before Week 9, Julio did go for 300 yards and Brandin Cooks over a buck 50.

I think both guys are playing better than what we could have asked at this point. Especially being rookies and was thrown out to the wolves.

So what you're saying is it wasn't as simple as Josh was shutting guys down last year? What a revelation. Going by what's said on this board, Josh was our entire defense last year and carried the team and letting him go for some rookies was the worst move by any GM in league history.

I wouldn't get rid of Boston.  He doesn't need to be a starter, but he was pretty good as a rotational guy.  I would rather see us go sign a quality SS, take J. Adams in the 1st, move Coleman back to FS and let Boston back him up.  Then you factor in Bradberry and probably a vet CB signing in the FA, Worley as a rotational guy, and that secondary just got a whole lot better.

The Panthers have the worst pass defense in the NFL.

  • 31st in yards per game.
  • 29th in completion %.
  • 27th in TDs.
  • 27th in yards per attempt.
  • They have given up a 95.5 combined rating to QBs.

The 2 things going for the defense are:

  1. 5th in interceptions (led by the LBs) There is not a single CB with multiple interceptions.
  2. 2nd in sacks.

So, the improvement on the defense is due to the DL getting to the QB and the LBs creating turnovers.

Do you believe that everyone, but the 2 rookie CBs are just horrible in the secondary and the rookies do not factor in to why the pass defense has been so bad?

The Panthers are also 30th in the NFL in stopping 1st downs against the passing game. Compare that to the run defense being 10th in the NFL in stopping 1st downs. Then keep in mind that Bradberry and Worley have given up the most 1st downs on the Panthers defense in the running game.

Some may want to forget just how bad the passing defense is and how badly the secondary ranks in the NFL, but the numbers show where the problem is at on the defense. The major problem lies at CB in both the run and passing game.

Opponents have targeted and attacked the rookie CBs in all facets of the game when they are trailing the Panthers in the 2nd half of games - especially the 4th quarter. They have been able to pick up easy 1st downs and chunks of yardage to get in to the red zone. This has unfortunately led to several lost leads and lost games.

I mean, they did ask Josh to do a ton of man to man on the opposing receiver.

    • If you're looking for a pat on the back it sounds good in theory until you realize they also had the 2023 Panthers as the top draft class.
    • Going into the 2003 and 2015 seasons we were supposed to be the joke of the league each time. In 2003, John Fox was supposed to still be in rebuild mode. We had a guy named Peppers on the defensive line who was supposed to be pretty good. We had Rodney Peete as our starting QB and a line that was a lot of hope and not much experience. Our new running back was a guy the Redskins, errrr Commanders, had jettisoned for being too old. We had a good kicker and writers thought that was needed because there were going to be more field goals than touch downs. Heck, it looked like they were right up until just before halftime of that first game when we had to yank Rodney Peete and put in some Cajun duded whose name couldn't be pronounced. And Steve Smith? He wasn't Smitty yet. Moose Muhammad, well, he was close to being written off as a bust. You know how that turned out. And then in 2015, we had Cam Newton, who was electrifying to watch but hadn't really won anything yet. There was an offensive line in front of him that looked like it was made in a defunct Swiss cheese factory and our big hope on offense was the great Kelvin Benjamin. And then he got taken out for the year with a knee injury in training camp. Ted "Feet of Lightning, Hands of Stone" Ginn became our default go to guy beside our next best hope, yeah, Devin Funchess. Our defense was pretty good, a scrappy bunch with frikkin' awesome linebacker play and a cornerback who had done more than drank the Kool-Aid, but had snorted the powder. He played like a superhero and became sort of a bat-man during the season. By the Super Bowl he had completely lost his freaking mind, though, and managed to talk his way out of a contract with the team next year. No one was expecting us to win the NFCSouth that season, much less almost go undefeated and into the Super Bowl. So, 2026? Who knows? But our best seasons came when no one had a reason to believe in us, except us.
    • it's not so much this personal vendetta against the Carolina Panthers as it is more about Bryce Young never not once been in the same conversation with the top 15 or even top 20 Qbs in the NFL ..just saying
