Loyalty and Continuity

For all the talk of Shula/Dorsey, it wasn't either of them that decided to roll the dice with our OL after witnessing it collapse in the biggest game in the history of our franchise.

It also wasn't either of them that decided to make our kicker right around top paid in the league knowing he was still iffy on long kicks.

Would have been fine with a new qb coach instead of Dorsey, that's about it. Defense played just as huge a role in our record last year as did the offense, but both units sucked mainly due to personnel then anything else, I can see why Ron would like to give it another go with the current coaching staff if the improvements are made talent wise

There is such a thing as being loyal to a fault. Whether it applies here is difficult because I have trouble making an objective assessment of last season. To ignore all the many factors that went against us is foolish and while we saw faults being magnified, those types of things can't exactly be fixed by the next game, especially when finding a semblance of consistency was all but impossible.

If there was pressure to make changes, then even someone like Ron should understand that he's making his leash shorter by keeping most of his staff. He's gambling that he and his staff can bank on prior experience to take the required steps that will make our team better. For our sake and his job along with those around him, he better be right.

The coaching staff that brought 3 straight division titles and a Superbowl appearance in the last 4 years?

Since Rivera has been coach, go back and rewatch games we pulled off...especially very close ones. You'll notice that players win these games by overcoming bad coaching over anything, more often than not.

Look at play-calling and adjustments...it's painfully obvious. Last year was a prime example of the players seemingly losing the will to make poo calls and no adjustments work. It's like they're worn out.

I don't get the whole 'if we broke them up in 2015'...we have hit a peak and going downward. Why the fug would you look back at what you have had success on in the PAST and try and get better at that? That's the exact OPPOSITE of evolving. You're doing the same things and teams have caught on...change your poo up already.

Rivera's loyalty appears to be taking a risk. His loyalty only waivers when is job is on the line and when forced, Rivera actually makes pretty good decisions. Wish he didn't have to be forced.

The Shula and Dorsey of last year were by far the biggest problem with the team. I'm skeptical that they adjust enough but now we'll just have to wait and see. I think Ron will be pushing them to adjust and they all know what's at stake so it could happen and I hope like hell that it does.

I have tremendous respect for Ron's military way of thinking with loyalty and brotherhood. He's determined to win the battle without losing any of his guys along the way. And if it works then I'll be thrilled, even more so than if we fired him and the next guy came in and on it all (like Fox and Kubrick in Denver). But if not then a change up may be necessary, which would suck because I really really like Rivera.

So what we all knew then..Rivera is the problem keeping around poo in a bag just so he can step on it and have a scape goat for later...well I hope DG told him that his neck is actually out there and will be chopped if he lets that never been worth a poo OC drag him down...oh well his own fault if he can't see what literally everyone else can.

Won't be surprised at all if our team is like those other teams that win the SB when they get rid of a almost coach for a coach that takes a talented team over the top. Rivera is good but not great and his faults are very exploitable.

Football has been waiting how long for Shula to evolve...yea it's gonna happen this year lol...change of plans draft all defense this draft again and hope for one of those all time defenses.

If the Panthers had sustained excellence, then all for loyalty and continuity

Fact is, they haven't

The  year they play lesser competition, they are above 500.

The year they play a first place schedule, they aren't .

What that tells me is sustained mediocrity is the order of the regime.

When better coordinators / coaches  are available, we keep what we have.

Last time Rivera's back was against the wall he reeled off 3 division titles and a SB appearance. Remembering all the 1-3 starts it's almost like Rivera has to be backed into a corner to focus. I think our coaching staff and team will respond well this year (if we can stay healthy).

Ole risk averse Rivera. It's how he rolls, and probably the biggest reason for his awful record in close games.

Goes along with his insistence to give playing time to vets past their serviceable ability over young talented guys.

We'll see if Cam can make Shula look like a guru one more time.

I've yet to see that, in my opinion. Care to list a few that you think of?

Shula has proven he's learns and grows every year. It's difficult to say what impact Dorsey is having.

While I'm one to harp mechanics, you can't blame Cam or Dorsey for Cam falling back into bad mechanics when the oline was  shell of itself, and the NFL was allowing head hunting on Cam.

Make or break. If they fail to make the playoffs, then Rivera, Shula, and Dorsey should be let go with Gettleman on the hot seat. He'd get one more year. If we win, but the offense still looks shaky, then you get rid of Shula and Dorsey.
