Cause that some funny poo!

Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports the Browns are looking to trade Brock Osweiler for a third-round pick.

The Browns are willing to throw in a fifth-rounder and are open to paying half of Osweiler's salary. Per Cabot, if the Browns can't find a taker, they'll release Osweiler and eat the $16 million remaining on his contract. The Browns are positioning themselves to make a run at Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo. Cabot's report all but confirms that Osweiler will never play a down in Cleveland.

They're getting a lot of heat for the move, but the Browns taking that deal and eating the contract was actually really smart. You can't trade cash for draft picks, but this is as close as it comes. They basically bought a good draft pick. For a rebuilding team which the Browns have perpetually been, that's a big bonus.

Don't understand why they would just release him.  If I am paying him, I would at least keep him around as a backup.

Yeah, if I'm eating that money anyway I'd at least bring him into camp and let him compete. I mean hell, why not?

    • There probably isn’t an orthopedic surgery that has had more improvement in technique and outcomes over the last two decades than the acl repair. Because of its importance in pro sports and the sheer number that surgeons do there have been lots of opportunities to practice 1. Better techniques - arthroscopic v open surgery means people heal faster  2. More training - all sports med surgeons have tons of experience doing them 3. better imaging - later generations of mri are more sensitive  4. better therapy - PTs have gotten better at rehabbing them and the theories of rehab have improved a lot. No idea about brooks in particular tho, but I’d describe that overall situation as “not great”
    • If Freeling or either of the Utah OTs dropped to 19 I'd be more than happy honestly. Our OT situation isn't great with an aging Moton at RT and a mess of a situation at LT if Walker goes down at any point in time.  What I'm expecting the Panthers to do is probably draft another weapon like Sadiq or KC Conception. That's been their track record in drafting R1 thus far. None of the defensive talent projected to be around 19 stands out to me. Unless they just want to draft a LB early (Rodriguez,  CJ Allen, Anthony Hill, Jake Gollday).
