I would've said Corey Davis if he wasn't hurt. Not being able to participate in the combine or his pro day makes me a little nervous about him.

This. Between the two I like the idea of Howard much more. Cam has and always will primarily rely on a tight end I feel like. He has since his rookie year. OJ under Greg's watch for a few years and on the field together is very appetizing. I think he opens up the run game and allows us to run some diverse looks as an offensive unit. Watched some quick games of his today and he was tasked with blocking Myles Garrett a few times and more than held his own with little or minimal help. He also abused AMs other DE who will go much later in the draft and drove him off his spot.

Who will gives us a immedient impact??

A TE to add with Olsen in a 12 personal offense sorta like we had with Olsen and Shockey..

Or

A true number 1 WR added with KB and Funch to go with a spread and help add a short passing game...

Howard  can do what Davis can do as a reciver and play major faction in the run game!

2x better

Good topic.  I would lean towards Howard so long as we switch to a 2TE base.  If we are only going to play Howard 20 snaps a game then give me Davis.

Howard would improve our run and pass blocking.  I think he would also free up Olsen to run routes even against teams that generate pressure - some games last year Olsen was forced into blocking just to keep Cam alive.

I think we need both a TE and a WR to be honest.  The first four picks being a combo of TE, RB, WR, DE would be great.

I see and understand the hype on Howard. His college production isn't much but scouts say he was under utilized in Bamas offense.

Davis was pretty much the focal point for his offense and has all the production you can ask for.

I prefer Davis. I think he'd get more touches.

Also if you go back and look at 2011 Shockeys receiving production was similar to what we've seen out of our 3rd and 4th receivers. If Davis can be a number 2 WR day one he obviously would provide more immediate impact.

In the 2 tight end sets you only have room for 2 receiver's and 1 back or 2 backs and 1 receiver.

Be very tough to stretch the field with Benjamin,Funchess, Olsen and Howard on the field at the same time. Meaning teams could stack the box and offset the benefit Howard's blocking brings in the run game. Plus how much better is his blocking ability than Dickson's?

Compare that to seeing

Benjamin,Funchess, Olsen and Davis on the field at the same time. Would make stretching the field much easier. We need to stop teams from stacking the box on us.

When the field is stretched it loosens up the run game by default and gives Cam more room to improvise and gain yards when scrambling.

One could make the argument that the reason for 2015's success is we had much more speed on the field at all times with Ginn and Brown effectively the number 1 and 2 receivers that year.

Realllllly warming to the idea of Howard at 8.  Allen, Solomon, Fournette, Howard, or Adams, fine with any of them.

2 TE sets, a physical freak, big target, help the run game with blocking ability, and an Olsen replacement.  Not to mention, grab a RB later with the depth there. Perfectly fine with Howard, would "question" Davis just a little bit, even though I'd be excited by the potential.

What is the ceiling here?

Gronk vs Dez Bryant?

Howard feels like the safer pick, but Davis could add a dimension to the team that we don't have.

Gronk with no injury history.

Gronk is pretty much the best tight end ever, and I'm not being hyperbolic. When he's healthy he's dominant. You just can't stop his size and speed combo. Plus he blocks like a damn lineman. He is a factor in every play he's on the field, whether it be from running a decoy route, catching a pass, or blocking a guy.

Howard has that potential.

An extra wrinkle advocating for Howard at 8 is of course the run blocking...but hell, just having another massive human chipping on the outside or staying in to pass block, so it frees Olsen up to run routes? Win-win.  I mean, Olsen was staying in during plays in the SB to block. Imagine if he were running routes instead.

IF the OL struggles again...having Howard helps a helluva lot more than a WR.

Adding speed and YAC to the offense would help us so much.  I'm not certain Davis can be a true #1, but I think he's got a better shot at it than KB.  And I think he's already better than Funchess.  I would feel better if he had been able to work out at the combine to prove his athleticism, given that most of his tape is vs. non-NFL talent.
