Are people really saying McCaffrey is preferred over Fournette now?

I was under the assumption the Panthers believed Fournette would be gone by pick 8. As such, they started looking at the next best option in the case that they want to go RB. There is no tape, scout, or combine performance in the world that could make me believe McCafrey will be a better NFL player than Fournette.

I will be shocked if the next best pick they can muster at 8 is another RB, not named Fournette.  Let's not forget how much DG cherishes the rookie deal a first round pick gets, with the 5th year option.  I find it really hard to believe that DG is okay with using that on a position that is usually not that expensive when compared to a DE, QB or LT.  Fournette is special enough to use that pick on a RB, but I think the pick at 8 is DE (assuming Fournette is gone).

Exactly.  There is zero chance unless we trade down.  I see it being DB or a DE if LF is gone.  Maybe a trade down for an inline TE

I fugin LOVE Fournett. Hes my dream RB. there is a high chance we cant score a RB like him, therefore, Id settle with McCaffrey because i cant live without a RB and I feel we can be creative on how to maximize what he brings to the table. i am also good at convincing myself that McCaffrey is just as good....  when he isnt. i mean look at Fournett

Fournette > McCaffrey.  Huddlers are buying into the hype that the media is using for limelight before the draft.  Its that time of year where after initial evaluations and mocks come out that, the media outlets can't about the same material because of ratings.

Got to throw the curve balls and the craziness in there for click bait and views.

    • To all the analysts who said "Caps in 5", thank you for telling us their departure time.
    • We won't know the answer to this for a long time. Reality is, Caleb has been the consensus #1 in that draft for years. Bryce was a similar situation, but mostly the same. He was not the clear and obvious #1 that Caleb was, but most teams had Bryce at QB1. The Panthers were always going to be terrible Bryce's rookie year.  I don't think DJ Moore's presence would have changed anything about that offense, as our guards, center, and left tackle were getting demolished on nearly every snap. It's clear Caleb's dad was trying to do everything possible to ensure Caleb didn't end up in Chicago with Eberflus. It's hard to imagine that he wouldn't have done the same, but probably more publicly with our situation, considering Carolina is an easier target for the media than Chicago. We can all speculate, but it's impossible to tell who is going to have the better career on May 16, 2025. If either QB doesn't pan out, we have an easy answer. If both flame out, the bears clearly won the trade, but it wouldn't have really mattered anyway. We all know how we win the trade. Candidly, even if one of the other picks we gave up ends up being a hall of fame player, we don't know if the panthers would have taken that player anyway. All you can do is make the best decision you can in the moment with the information you have. I really like Bryce Young, and I'm glad he's a Carolina Panther.  The only way to win in the modern NFL is to have an absolute dude at QB. I personally am happy that our franchise recognizes this, as I remember times when they did not.
