RANKING ALL 32 OFFENSIVE LINE UNITS HEADING INTO THE 2017 SEASON

12. Carolina Panthers

The interior of the Panthers line is solid, but the tackle position is still a concern. They spent big money this offseason on Matt Kalil, who has graded out below-average every single season since a successful rookie campaign. Injuries have played a part there, but there is no guarantee he regains that form. The wild card here could be rookie second-round pick Taylor Moton, who was consistently one of our highest-graded linemen between tackle and guard in college.

Better than I expected.

Moton will prove to be a great pick. Everything I've came across so far shows that he is smart, coachable, reliable, and MASSIVE. Worst case, he fills in incase we can't keep both Norwell next season. Starter material anyway you look at it.

I'm actually relieved McDerm picked Dawkins right before him.

Tackles, Tackles, Tackles tho? ...I'm happy for Matt but tempering my expectations based on what I've seen previously. Hopefully Brown & Matsko can get him back to rookie form.

I call BS , our tackle situation is a complete mystery until weve played a few games.

True, but I don't think it's a stretch to expect Oher-esque level play out of Kalil and we know Williams is a serviceable RT with a potential upgrade added in Moton. This is the best OT situation we've had on paper since Gross retired, which granted is saying very little.

I'm feeling pretty good so long as I don't hear anything about Bell or Chandler being signed. Rating our o-line at this point is totally impossible, but I like hearing we're 12th. I'll forget about this rating by tomorrow, but it's a nice little bit of entertainment.

Williams is great in Madden so no worries there.

Given that it's a pre-preseason theoretical ranking it's literally all bs.

Yeah, I hope Moton ends up being great, but let's wait until we actually see him in pads going head to head with proven NFL pass rushers before we start patting ourselves on the back for a getting a 2nd round steal.

Overall, my expectations of him as a rookie are relatively low. It's a mighty steep learning curve from MAC level NCAA play and the NFL - especially in the trenches.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
