We can not afford to lose Star Lotulelei

We just signed Turner to an extension and I'm stoked about that.  The next guy to extend absolutely has to be Star Lotulelei.  Vernon Butler is NOT a NT, he is much more like KK than he is Star.  Star is one of the best NT's we have ever had.  We are best with a good DL and Star should be a vital piece to that DL for years to come.  That is all.

Yeah. Vernon is not a 1-tech. He doesn't do well against double teams. I don't get why people say he'd be Star's replacement.

However, that's not to say Star could be replacable. Next year's DT class is really strong, and Lowell Lotulelei is also available.

I'd love to resign Star, bur I'd rather us lock up Norwell first beforehand.

Just now, Shocker said:

I agree he didn't make the Pro Bowl he first year here.  Throw him out with the garbage.  Loser.

Not saying he won't be a solid player but selecting Butler in round 1 when we already have KK is foolish.

Please keep Star. There is plenty of space, especially with our aging DEs. Let Butler and KK rotate between DT and DE. We need star to keep o-lineman from concussing our star LB.

Edit: also because we have a team full of 230 pound linebackers. We don't need these guys going one on one with 320 pound guards.

Who's more important Short or Star? Not sure I love the idea of sinking another top dollar contract on a DT.

I really like Short, but thought the smart move was to let Short walk (with Vern drafted, it was possible to transition away from Short) and keep Star. I'm thinking Star would yield a slightly better performance to $ value. With Star's past health issues and less sexy stats, I expect he wouldn't get nearly the same $, but his contributions to the run D go unheralded in the media. Kinda like when Kemo manned the fireplug role. Not as noticed till he was hurt (and Brandon Jacobs ran wild). Same with Star.

I'd love to keep both but lot of cap to sink in there now that they got the 2nd contracts coming.

I hope the team can keep Star. But, I think he's easier to replace than Kwann Short.

Short has had a double digit sacks from the NT spot. That doesn't happen on a routine basis in the NFL. Plus, he now has a legitimate DE's playing on both sides of the D-Line which should make him even more dangerous this year.

Star can fill the holes and take up blockers with the best but he's not irreplaceable, especially with his injury history.

    • I mean, no I’m not going to panic when he got 2 Qs and looked great in 1 and looked not great in another (let’s not mention the drop).    Yeah we finally have a team that would be considered average offensively around him. Let’s roll this season.
    • The woe is me everything but Bryce sucks mantra is stale af my friend. Look nobody here is going to argue with the fact Frank Reich was not a good head coach. At the same time. Bryce Young is now in his second season with his second coaching staff and a handpicked young offensive head coach who has been known for working with QB's such as Baker and Geno. As far as the offensive pieces around Bryce we have the 4th highest salary cap allocation (that might be even higher now after the new Moton deal) dedicated to the OL in the entire league. We have 2 first round WR's one of them 8th overall the first time we've ever selected a WR that high in franchise history. And the fact of the matter is Bryce Young did not have a good preseason. It's not the first time it's happened either. We all hope to see he and the rest of the team flip a switch in week 1. But we should all be able to agree that the offensive performances we've seen from the entire QB room (Bryce included) in preseason was simply unacceptable.
    • We have seen Bryce play… what… 9 games with AT BEST what one would consider NFL average WRs? You just can’t see the forest for the trees and keep going back to your lazy take of revisionist history.    he looked AWFUL Y1 with the worst coaching I’ve ever seen in the NFL and one of the weakest WR rooms I can recall. He looked awful first half of y2 and great second half of y2 with average coaching and average skill position. I don’t know where this elite talent argument even comes from.
