Actually, it's usually the other way around. We liked to trash the OP and post cool things like "cool story bro".

But this, yeah it's believable, easily

You think it's believable that our star QB got punched in the face twice and there was no word of it ever? You think that there would be no discipline? You think he wouldn't have been cut that afternoon? Now y'all are just looking for ways to stay entertained lol. It's not believable.

I don't buy it. If the story was just Cam and Smitty arguing too much in the locker room... okay. But the idea that Smitty punched Cam in the face twice, and nothing happened until he was released at the end of the season. I find that unlikely. Smitty left Anthony Bright with a fractured orbital lobe (got suspended). Broke Ken Lucas's nose (got suspended). Those were essentially no names. But he punches the franchise quarterback in the face twice, and plays out the rest of the year with no public reprimand until he gets injured. This is the same team that publicly reprimanded Cam for not wearing a tie on a bus ride. But the THIRD time Smitty hits a teammate, the team is like, "We won't suspend him any games this time, we'll just release him at the end of the season." Nah. It sounds like "this" source knows that Smitty had a history of getting physical with teammates, and concocted a story around that.

The most likely reason that Smitty was released is he was like 34 years old, was coming off of a season where his production was down, and he got injured right before the playoffs (not his fault, but that's when you need your number one receiver the most).

this could have easily been swept under the rug. you have an owner that wants to keep the image of his player icons squeaky clean and as long as there is no press or other non affiliated hangers-on, and cam has no visible marks (he didn't; honestly it's easy to understand how smith could've gotten one or two shots in but couldn't get a lot behind them in a crowded locker room). and knowing ron's approach to the locker room this is exactly the kind of thing he'd keep clamped shut, especially in the midst of our first winning season in years

the other two times were different. smith wasn't an icon when he punched bright yet and in lucas' case, he basically did it during practice in broad daylight with beat writers and jeremy taking pictures and hundreds or thousands of fans in observance.

I'm sure the same could be said for every team though. These are locker rooms full of alpha males. They have their disagreements and handle 99% of them in house

You wouldn't believe how many fights were broken up in our locker room during college. You got 90 dudes in a room you're not gonna love everyone, poo happens.

The punching him in the face thing is exaggerated. The 2 above articles reference the rift's and why Smith was let go. He did not punch Cam.

Plus there is this. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/12/28/ron-rivera-thinks-steve-smith-should-retire-a-panther/

Rivera wasn’t alone hailing Smith Wednesday, either.

“A fierce competitor,” Panthers quarterback Cam Newton said. “There’s not a lot of guys that you look down a dark alley and you say, ‘I want to bring this person, I want to bring that person.’ Steve Smith is one of those guys that you better make sure that he’s on your team and not against the team because I’ve seen both of them. I would prefer him being on my team.”

I got two sources that have connections with the organization that say he did punch Cam. PhillyB's not spouting random crap.

    • lol well that kinda ended up working out in the end, even though I still don't have my jersey yet. Was supposed to ship by tomorrow this time, but just got another email saying it was delayed another 3 weeks and because it's been delayed so long, I had to tell them to keep the order or cancel it, but gave me a 25% off my next order as an apology. Well, my original fear came true and they are now selling the FUSE version (but still not the Blue unfortunately) before the one I ordered was ever shipped. But that's awesome, because I was able to use that coupon to order the FUSE instead and then cancelled the original order.  So I got the jersey I wanted for only $6.30 more than the crappier version costs, and it also says it will be shipped immediately and get here early next week, or 2 weeks before the other was now supposed to be shipped out.
    • I've watched this and think we are well underway.  Believe it or not, Bryce is a big part of this.  The way he bounced back with such grace.  And we've got a lot of young players who want to make their mark, Dave is giving them an opportunity.  I loved our draft.  I like the number of guys we brought in, and they will help build the culture we want under Dave.  We're getting closer, and I think we'll see more wins this year than most of the board. The right culture breeds winning, and winning builds the right culture.  Imho, it's coming.
    • As others have said it's both. One creates the other. But it also takes time sometimes years. And there have been teams lately with new car smell coaching staffs that looked like they were putting it together quickly but things came crashing back down to Earth. Sustainability is the key. For that to happen the meddling of our owners has to stop and they cannot be tempted to return to their ways over any bump in the road either.
