But if Gettleman made the same move, clay would be a future all pro and Gettleman had screwed us up for years. It is truly amazing how much he cares about a GM that was ran out of town for destroying our salary cap

The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if JR and Beane had a deal for him to go to Buffalo and blow their roster up in our favor.  Then after he is fired, JR hires him here as GM.  I know JR has to much integrity to do this though.

If he was run out of town, he would not be welcome back. He fell on the sword to keep the young unit together and buy them more time. He believed, and he was right. Hurney wanted Beane to step in, and when Beane got shafted by Gettleman with all those horrendous moves and mismanagement of draft assets, Hurney stepped in to give Gettleman the boot. Hurney has always had JR's ear.
