Pretty cool evening with a former Panther...

...even if it was one of Hurney's second rounders.

I coach a 5/6th grade youth football team in my town.  A few weeks ago one of our JV (3/4th grade) coaches tells me he coached Everette Brown when he was growing up and asked if I would be interested in having him out one evening to talk to the kids.   As a Panthers fan, my first instinct was 'nah', but I decided that maybe it would be a good idea.

He finally made it out tonight, and I have to say he was a really cool dude.  He spoke with our teams for 10-15 minutes, and they seemed to really take it all in.  He helped drive home a lot of points that we continually harp on (school is the #1 priority, surrounding yourself with the right people, and always giving 100%), and then he gave the kids a chance to ask questions.

I didn't count, but I'd estimate he fielded at least a half dozen questions about Cam but he didn't seem to mind it at all.  Afterward he hung out with the kids, signed a pile of his rookie cards that he brought, and then sat down and ate with the team.  All the while, any kid that spoke to him got 100% of his attention.

I know his run here was far from what anyone here had hoped, but I guess he can't help that he was over drafted.  Even if his days in the black and blue were short he still achieved something that pretty much no one is able to do.  I'm glad  to have been able to meet him.

    • I think i like the Oregon Safety better
    • Do you see the vision?  As of now our Carolina Panthers don’t have an identity. We are not an offensive powerhouse and on defense we only started getting it together towards the end of the year last year. In my opinion we are much closer to having an incredible defense that scares the daylights out of people. I say the answer is simple and we fully commit to that possible identity.    Emmanuel McNeil Warren (E man)  This guy is like a shark lurking around ready to attack anyone. Fearless. He is easily a top 20 talent in my eyes, and the only reason he isn’t more talked about is because he’s from Toledo. Do your due diligence as panther fans and watch his tape I beg you. Once you’re done watching let me ask you this, if you dropped E - Man into the strong safety spot on the Buckeyes, he isn’t being talked about as one of the best prospects we’ve seen in some time given the skill set you see with this guy? I think so. Put his name on the card and turn it in at 19.    Jacob Rodriguez  High effort, High energy, High IQ guy that flies around the field. We all know Jacob at this point. My only concern is he’s a little bit too good and I’m not sure he makes it to us at our pick in the second. With the additions of Jacob and E- Man I think our defense goes to top 5 in the league. We would have a duo of linebackers that rival anything we’ve had in our past. I’m not a GM so I don’t know what the possible answer could be, but if there’s a way we can comfortably trade up in the second to secure this guy I think we find a way to do it.    Spend the rest of our picks fixing the O - line.    Thoughts Panthers fans? Who’s the ideal duo for yall?
    • OL is arguably much more important to the success of a young QB. (Or any QB)
