Woody Paige just said the Panthers are 39-1 when Cam runs at least 8 times. Definitely supports the narrative that our offense needs Cam to be a duel threat

By making him a strictly pocket passer and only runs when he scrambles is wasting his talent.  If you design runs for him.  Teams now have to plan for it and it opens other big plays.

I also think Cam wants to run.  What was that statement he made.  You can't keep a lion from roaring. or something like that.

It's a huge part of his mojo. He really comes to life when he gets that first down an  it ends up making every other part if his game better. He needs to have that freedom. Everyone benefits from it.

Plus it makes the threat not  real so defenses have to really key in on it and it distracts them. Defenses haven't had to worry about that this year too much and it allows them to focus more on CMC (which they very much are). You make both those guys a legit multi use danger and defenses are going to be leaving multiple holes on every play.

Hmmm seems similar to a comment I left a couple of days ago. Supports my theory for sure.

notice how on his TD run that was a zone read with McCaffrey

At some point in his career he’s going to have to stay in the pocket... getting hit like he does takes a toll on the body, and of course everyone knows you get slower as you get older

His sliding has really improved. I am not worried.

He doesnt get hit when he runs though unless its at the goal line. And in the rare case he gets hit in open field he's usually the one delivering the impact versus receiving it. Much rather have that than have Kalil "protecting" him in the pocket and letting DLinemen tee off on him.

Yup much rather have a 200 S/DB than a 300 DL

    • And really, it should be 4 reasons with the last one being that there were ZERO other offensive weapons on that team in 2024, opposing defenses only had to worry about one player all year long and they constantly double and triple teamed him right off the snap all season.  In 2023, we still had Jacob Cowing who had 90 catches that year and was drafted by the 49ers last year, so teams couldn't just send everyone after T-Mac on every passing down.
    • I wonder if the Hornets view Kon and McNeeley more as forwards and plan to ship off Green/Okogie/Smith for center help. I hope they don’t plan to ship off Sexton as I like what he brings to the team. (2) G - Ball, Mann, Simpson (two-way) (3) G - Sexton, Dinwiddie, Connaughton (3) F - Miller, Knueppel, McNeeley, James (two-way) (3) F - Bridges, Williams, Salaun (3) C - Diabate, Kalkbrenner, Plumlee
    • 3 main reasons he was better in 2023 and none of them concern me for his NFL prospects 1. Totally new coaching staff that was a massive downgrade and had god awful play calling and designs, the entire fan base was ready to run the coaching staff out of town a month into their first season and the play caller ended up getting changed because it was so bad. 2. Along with the staff downgrade, his QB played significantly worse after being the Pac 12 Freshman of the Year in 2023.  Constantly missed T-Mac when he was wide open, lost out on a number of TDs and a good amount of yardage, half the time T-Mac still almost made miraculous catches on the bad passes too. 3. He hurt his ankle over the summer and missed all of fall camp only to return to practice a few days before the season started and I think he had to deal with it all season long and was slightly limping at times mid season too, but kept fighting through it to still be a 1st team All American.
