Well, since 2015, the last time our QB played in a SB, there have only been 12 QBs in a SB including ours. Purdy is one of those 12 and of those 12 only about half would be considered better than good but they all got there which is more than most good QBs and even some great ones. Some people are just winners even if they aren't great. If SF didn't pat him he would have walked and then they are back to where they were before Purdy. Great team desperately throwing qbs on the field hoping one stuck. They got lucky once. Would they get lucky again? He's one of the highest paid this year. But by the time that contract ends he won't be. Every SB QB becomes one of the highest paid the year they sign it. Even some who don't go to SBs like Lamar. I don't see how it's a bad move. -
Wanting that type of play and being okay with paying $55 million a season for it are two entirely different things. If Bryce were to become the same player Purdy has been, then he would surpass my expectations of him and I'd be okay with him as our QB of the future (and again, I've long been one of the bigger anti Bryce people here who doesn't think he is capable of being our long term solution). But in no world would I be okay with paying him THAT kind of money, paying an average starter elite money is just a terrible decision.
