TEAM STATS

OFFENSE

#5 in the League in Total Offense Yards Gained !

Tied for #1 in League in total rushing attempts (305) with Jacksonville

#4 in Total Rushing Yards

#7 in Rush Yards Per Game

#2 Offense in Total First Downs Gained (#1 New England)

#1 Offense in League in 1st Downs Gained by Rushing

#1 Offense in League in Total 3rd Downs converted (with 67, #2 is Rams with 60. Let that sink in for a moment.)

#1 Least Penalized Offense in the League

#2 Least Yards Taken Away by Penalties in the League

DEFENSE

#5 Total Defense in Total Yards Allowed

#1 Total Defense In Average Yards Allowed Per Game

Tied for #3 In Average Points allowed Per Game

Tied for #4 Defense in Total Rushing Yards Allowed

#14 Defense in Receiving Yards Allowed

Tied for #6 in Total 1st Downs Allowed

#11 in Opponent 3rd Downs Allowed

Tied for #2 in Total Sacks

(our passing offense and passing defense, are both mediocre)

--------

What stands out the most to me is that we have the #1 offense in 3rd downs gained , and the #2 offense in 1st downs gained. We've been doing outstanding at moving the chains, we just need to score touchdowns like we did in this game . Combine that with a top 5 defense  , limit turnovers, that's a recipe for success.

Not to be a downer, but we have played 1 more game than most teams at this point. Average per game stats are all we should really look at until every team has had their bye week.

The offense has looked better but the Dolphins are terrible right now.

I agree that having an extra game for the Offense can skew the results. Making our Offense look a tad better than it probably is.

However, it has the opposite effect on the Defense. Our Defense looks pretty darn good, and they have played one more game than most other teams.

That extra game can inflate our Offense, but it just enforces how well our Defense is playing.

    • And, honestly, there's only so much you can attempt to do in the draft. And every draft pick is a roll of the dice. But that's where grabbing a ton of UDFAs, and targeting the best, makes a big difference. Sure, their individual chances of getting a hit here is less, but that shotgun pattern might just hit something.  Right now, we need bulk, partly to rebuild and partly to dilute the deep level of stank that has developed on this team in the last six years. If we're going to rebuild a culture built around culture, accountability and winning, then these UDFAs we bring in each season have to be the wash water that gets out that leftover dirt.  Canales seems to be a smart, culture-first, build up the good ones kind of guy. I like that and I hope he can keep it going here. But he was working against a locker room that had been taught to lose and taught to distrust or ignore coaches. He's got his work cut out for him, still. He does seem to have it moving in the right direction and that's something I was pretty amazed with by the end of last season.
    • The most telling sign, IMO, of a team on the upward swing is who we lost in the off-season. Who left that even saw the field? Woods, Clowney, Sanders, & Hekker. OK...no big deal. Clowney is the only 1 that I raised an eyebrow over and I get that it was a money decision. No need to pay him over $7M to take snaps from our draft picks when he was just OK last year.
