Eddie DeBartolo Wants to Buy Panthers (CONFIRMED)

Upon searching for any other articles linking him to us, I only found an article that discussed JR's current predicament and compared it to past similar incidents, among them being Debartolo's.  Having read how the NFL dealt with him, I'm thinking all of these outside names may become inconsequential in regards to who our next owner is.  Despite what Debartolo did, his only punishment was that he couldn't be involved with or control the Niners for a year, but he instead just chose to retire and transferred ownership to his sister.

I think this may end up being how all of this plays out for us...  JR has already stepped away from team operations, named Becker as COO, and stated he is selling the team at season's end.  I think he quietly picks his successor from the minority owners already invested and that's that.

I believe you are correct.

I really wish JR would get on this now. Waiting till the end of the year is going to make things extremely difficult for us this offseason.

By the time this dumbass finds a new owner and that owner finds a new GM and so on... it’ll be half way through free agency and the draft will be coming up and no one will have any idea as to what’s going on.

Hard to believe this sale would be approved by the team or the owners.

Richardson loves NFL royalty (like Shula, for example) so it 's not necessarily out of the question.

He might also feel like someone with an established record of success is the best choice to oversee his legacy.

It just hit me...  Man, Hurney has to feel like the rug was pulled out from underneath him LOL.

He's got a job at least through next June.

Question I asked elsewhere though: Given how close Hurney has been to Richardson, how much did he know about what was going on?

Could he be back in place now because he was more willing than others to keep his mouth shut about Richardson's misconduct?

In 1992, DeBartolo was accused of sexual assault at his Menlo Park condo by a cocktail waitress he met at a local bar. The married DeBartolo, who denied any wrongdoing, was never charged but reportedly paid $200,000 to settle the case out of court.[9]

I suppose you could say the difference is that was made known.

Not sure the NFL would accept it though.
