Only 1 team in the last 18 years has won a SuperBowl with a receiving group as awful as ours. The 2000 Baltimore Ravens

Heres a painful reminder of what a terrible job the front office has done putting talent on the offensive side of the ball and why its unlikely we'll last long in these playoffs. I respect everybody that puts on an NFL uniform, much less a Carolina Panthers one but to have several UDFAs on the roster at the same position, seeing significant playing time AND expecting to make a run is ridiculous.  You can make the argument that we have the worst WR group of the 12 teams (probably about even with Buffalo), and if we were to go on some magical superbowl run it would literally buck every trend we've seen the last 18 years of NFL group. Look at the some talent on these rosters.

2000 Rams- Holt, Bruce, (Also had Hall of famers Faulk, Warner)

2001 Ravens- Dud, but that defense was historically dominate

2002 Bucs- Prime Keyshawn Johnson and Keenan McCardell was a better than average 2

2003 Pats- Branch, Troy Brown

2004 Pats- Branch, Givens, Patten

2005 Steelers- Hines Ward, Randle El

06 Colts- Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison (I don't know how this team didn't win more)

07 Giants - Plax, Toomer

08 Steelers- Holmes, Hines Ward

09 Saints- Colston, Henderson (Reggie Bush)

10 Packers - Donald Driver, Greg Jennings

11 Giants - Manningham, Nicks

12 Ravens - Boldin, Torrey Smith

13 Seahawks- Doug Baldwin, Golden Tate

14 Pats- Edelman, Lafell, (Gronk)

15 Broncos - Sanders, Thomas

16 Pats- Hogan, Edelman

Even some of the underwhelming names on that list are miles ahead of everybody not named Devin Funchess, and Funchess is probably a#2 WR at absolute best in this league. If Cam Newton can manage to lead the team to a W on Sunday build him a damn statue overnight in front of BOA. It is criminal what the team has surrounded him with at WR and no Coach/QB in modern history has been as successful as Cam and Rivera given the talent the front office has put on the field. In fact, look at the entirely of NFL history. What "great" QB has had any level of sustainable success without dependable targets at WR, much less made a playoff run. The sad thing is the Colin Cowherds of the world will get on TV Monday morning and talk about how bad and inconsistent Cam is.

Not so sure the '13 Hawks' receiving group was much better than ours now... Doug Baldwin was young and has improved a ton year to year, he wasn't really that good then. Tate and Funch are a wash. They had Harvin but he wasn't involved on offense at all. Great running game with Lynch. But no good TE, which is where Olsen makes our receiving group probably better than theirs that year.

    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
    • Ok LT and Petersen are a cut above everyone else to me cmc and Faulk are interchangeable on this list.  though Faulk was better career wise
