Jimmy Garoppolo Highest Paid Player in NFL History

Gotta agree with Mr. Scott on this one. Now that a 7 game veteran is going to 27.5 mil per year over the next 5 seasons, every QB who is up for a new deal/extension is going to want the same deal, probably even more (and I can't blame them after this new deal). Whoever signs Cousins will probably have to pay 30 mil a year. When Rodgers gets his next deal he'll want 32. When Wentz's rookie deal expires he'll want 35 etc.

Nothing wrong with that if profit for the NFL continues to grow and the salary cap rises to accommodate the higher salaries. Thing is, the hard cap doesn't increase that much each year, but the percentage allocated to "franchise QB's" seems to increasing every season. Once you pay your QB's "what they're worth", you've put your team in a competitive imbalance because you can't pay the standouts at other positions.

It does make it tougher on the individual team, but not the league as a whole. That team has now handicapped themselves with that cap hit reducing their ability to sign/re-sign other talent and making that talent available to the other 31 teams.

I see negative effects on individual teams as also affecting the league because it means the quality of play goes down overall.

Basically, we differ on perspective.

The way I see it, poorly managed teams are probably going to suck no matter what. You can't protect them from themselves.

Understood, but like I said their mistakes make life tough on others.

We'll probably just have to disagree on this one.

This contract must be taking looks into consideration because from a football perspective he's not worth that much...

But that boy fine.

None of them are worth that much,  but it is what it is.  If I'm not mistaken,  he is 7-0 in seven starts.
