over the cap had us at 17.7 prior to peppers and poe. So if that's right, then we're broke. I wonder if restructures and post cuts have been done internally and they haven't made public yet. that 9 mil may be backloaded AF. knowing hurney.

Pretty sure we'll make a couple post June 1 cuts to free up room to bring in vet minimums to cover our injuries . . . but honestly, we have to be just about done with FA at this point.  I don't see how we fit Ebron or Willson without screwing ourselves.

Best educated guess is roughly 7 to 7.5 Million  If you care to see how I arrived at that figure, keep reading below:

https://www.nflpa.com/public-salary-cap-report

Has 62 players accounted for and they say we have 16.275.

https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/carolina-panthers

Has us at 62 players as well. They do not show Peppers or Poe's deals listed.

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/carolina-panthers/cap/

Has us at 64 players listed but no terms on Peppers or Poe yet.

Being that NFLPA is the most legitimate source I'd use there numbers, then deduct the 5 million for Peppers. That would leave us at 11.275, minus whatever Poe's first year cap hit ends up being.

Breeland got 24 Million over 3 years and has a 1st year cap hit of 3.9M.

Poe got 27 Million over 3 years, first year cap hit has not been reported, however you can assume it's at least 1M more than Breelands (1 million more per year than Breeland). That would mean roughly a 5 Million hit in 2018.

11.275M, minus 5M = 6.275M

Now here's where the top 51 rule comes in. Once those contracts are added in, it will push down contract's valued around 500k to 550k cap hits and they will no longer count against the cap.  Thats 1 Million we can add back in.

which is about what we need to sign the rookies

so, why are we interviewing TE's?

Someone will get cut to make up for the cash I would presume

    • Got to talk to Tiny Lister once back when I worked for AT&T.  He was a nice guy.
    • The team signed undrafted rookie JJ Weaver from Kentucky. The 25-year-old Weaver played six seasons in college (with injury waivers), and had 21.5 sacks. He was a three-time team captain for the Wildcats. To make room for him on the roster, the Panthers released outside linebacker Amare Barno. Barno, a sixth-round pick in 2022, tore his ACL late in the 2023 season and began last year on the physically unable to perform list. He had 3.0 sacks in three seasons, appearing in 29 games. Sad to see. He seemed to have a lot of potential when he was drafted. Injuries really derailed him though.
    • Ok so how does this make sense for Blake?  Honestly I like it for us.  I’m really high on Blake’s future like I’m sure the Canes FO is.  If he continues along the path he’s on, we’ll have a top 6 forward on a KK contract.
