Hypothetical: CMAC & CMUEL Backfield?

With J. Wright being signed as a slot option, is it possible we might see a tandem backfield with Christian and Curtis?  Curtis had a dual threat career at Ohio State, so maybe Norv sees these two being a dynamic duo, with CAP being the between the tackles bruiser?  Thoughts?

I got railed for posting this two weeks ago, but some good points were made.

Samuel will not be an RB for us - maybe a gadget type but never an RB.

1. He weighs less than 200 lbs

2. Durability has already become a concern

3. He can't run up the middle, so the defenses already know what his role would be.

4. Can you imagine Samuel pass blocking a LB or DL if its a play action? '

5. CMC is already really good at it, why take away from him?

I’m actually fine with this. I think in order to get the best and the most out of Curtis is to use him like KC uses Tyrek Hill. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying they are the same player because Tyrek Hill is a very unique player developing into a dangerous WR. But at Ohio State Curtis was able to run the ball and be used as a primary deep threat. He should be allowed to do the same here it makes our offense that much more special.

I'd love to see some reverses or the wildcat using the both of them but Samuel's injury killed any chance of them being used like Stew and Deangelo. That's fine though CMC isn't a traditional back either. Play to their strengths and make them both gadget players IMO.

Samuel can be used for end arounds, screens, catches out of the backfield, pitches, and maybe even an outside toss.   I mean that is the type player he is....he most definitely can be used in the backfield some.    He obviously isn't an inbetween the tackle runner.   Obviously you can't use him consistently in the backfield but it can happen.  I mean he was that in college and NFL teams use WRs that way when skilled.

But we are talking random plays, not offensive norms.

Samuel isn't a RB and I doubt you'll ever see him in the backfield alone.  Maybe you can use both he and CMC at times together, but there's absolutely no comparison to Stew/DWilly.  None.  I am very interested to see how Norv plans to use CMC.  I think he's good enough to play as a lead back, but I worry about his size.  He actually comps pretty well athletically to another star RB that Norv had in SD, but he's 20 lbs lighter.  I was pretty strong in my day, but I could do more than 10 reps at 225 as a Sr in HS and I weighed 30 lbs less than he did.

Samuel was brought in to basically be Tyreek Hill.

Basically, I think we still need a lead back unless the staff suddenly shows trust in CAP.

CAP isn't a bruiser lol.

    • Good write up OP..... I may be the outlier here but I like our WR sans XL. Metchie is sneaky good and just like Dowdle last year he WILL BE the biggest under the radar singing of this year FA moves. I am warming up to the idea of Sadiq at 19 over defense. I'm just ready for every BY excuse to be gone, he doesn't have this or that. No he just sucks and we need to move on. Honestly I've said it before but this team has been depleted of so much talent over the years we really could go BPA and be fine. In DM I trust..........for now
    • Like I said darnold is making people into morons.   For every 1 darnold there are 125 kenny Picketts
    • He's not Cam brother. Disrespectful to Cam at this point to keep mentioning them together. That's just my opinion. We all agree we need the young guys to step up. They have to varying degrees. But they're still learning. Especially the rookies. Guys like Miller and Moose need to take another step and we hope they will get there. Both need to add some bulk in the offseason. Kalk too. We can give them a little grace though. We extended the same courtesy to LaMelo in his earlier years. Many excuses were afforded to him. I agree completely that we need to see both offensive evolution and development under Lee. I feel like the team in some aspects has taken a step back at times under his watch. That can't continue. I hope it all comes together. We'll see. But that clock is ticking and there should be NO excuses after this upcoming season. No more embarrassment please.
