A Very Hurney Mock Draft

Recommended Posts

Hurney has stated he wants to set up to be able to go BPA.  And I honestly think he will go BPA at the top

That being said

1st: Calvin Ridley- How Ridley falls blows most peoples minds.  DJ Moore is the hot new flavor of the week after the combine and workouts, he's shooting to the top of many WR boards.  Sutton is up up there among them too.  With 5 QBs going in the 1st, 2 WRs going off before him.  Ridley gets pushed down.  Hurney and Norv Turner cant help themselves but sprint up and pick him

Norv and Hurney are disgusted at the state of the WRs going into this season.  Bringing in Ridley, Smith, and Wright.    Shepard is likely out now.  Puts Funchess, Byrd, and even Samuel (even though has had injuries) on notice.

2nd: Justin Reid (via trade)- I just dont see Reid going in the 1st unless we pick him.  And had Ridley not been there he may have been the pick.  Reid falls to the 2nd and Hurney cant just stay put.  He trades up using our second 3rd rounder.    Valued at 150, the pick wouod move us to #40, but we may be able to get a few spots before.  We have seen Hurney jump when he sees a guy he likes (Otah, Brown, etc)  giving up that 3rd sucks for those who hoped we could get 4 guys who can make a impact.  But the likelyhood of getting someone with that other pick would nowhere close outweigh the option of getting Reid.

3rd: Rashaad Penny-  its going to be one of the big backs.  I think Chubb and Freeman go ahead of him.  With a deep RB class, its going to push guys down.  Barkley, Guice, Michel, Ronald Jones, Kerryon Johnson etc all going in the 1st 2 rounds.  The bigger more 1 dimensional guys like Chubb, Freeman, and Penny fall to the 3rd.

5th: Dalton Schultz- much like Kittle last year, Schultz falls.  He is a Y TE or TE2.  Hardly used at all in the passing game at Stanford.  He was a bigtime blocker and a major key in the Run game for CMC and Love.  His coaches claim he has all the tools to be a big factor in the passing game.  He wasnt the Freak athlete Kittle was last year, which is another reason he falls.  Current WR coach got a birds eye view on this kid as he was the RB coach at Stanford.  Schultz can come right in and fill the hole Dickson left

6th: QB

7th: BPA

i assume this means Hurney will trade up again? we only have 2 third-round picks right?

Correct only 2 3rds.

One trades away to move up to grab Reid.

The other to grab a RB in the 3rd

Id love that draft . But i doubt we would get both ridley and reid

2 months ago id say not a chance in hell we'd have a shot at Ridley.

There is a Strong possiblity 5 QBs go before our pick.  And that has pushed many mocks and  analysts to push him in our range.

* See CBS's current mock

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2018-nfl-mock-draft-bears-take-a-surprise-lb-at-no-8-four-qbs-go-in-top-five/

DJ Moore's stock is climbing as fast as anyones in this draft and most analysts have him as a top 15 guy now.  Sutton has always been said as a target scouts are drooling on and will go mid 1st (as you can see back in @Verge thread)  with those 2 going ahead of Ridley and highly doubtful 3 WRs go before our pick.  He falls in our lap

Reid.  At seasons end was looked at by everyone as a Mid 2nd.  His Huge combine is what pushed him up into borderline 1st range.  And as a team in desperate need of a Safety was a popular choice among many mocks to us.  Derwin James is a no brainer for a higher 1st, but Ronnie Harrison was a 1st round lock ahead of the combine.  He came into the combine with a bad sore hamstring, and caused him to not run the 40 and limited in drills.  This caused his stock to drop for the moment.  I still expect him to go ahead of Reid.  Pushing Reid just outside the 1st.  Most mocks have Reid going at #48 if he's not mocked to us in the 1st

Nice. I’d still be worried about DE though. I’m not expecting much from Hall

That's exactly why it sucks to trade away the extra 3rd. That being said, to grab Reid it would be worth it. None of us has seen Hall play in the NFL, so its almost like an extra 3rd this year, I hope he pans out.

Justin reid to us in the second would be great but i dont see it happening. Cowboys biggest need far and away is safety and reid seems like the best cover safety in the draft. They might just move back in the first and grab him there or trade up early 2nd and take him. A more plausible safety for us would be jessie bates. Panthers seem to love the guy and we wouldn't need to trade up to get him.

    • I would write “give remmers tight end help” on a yellow sticky note and stuck it in shulas playbook the night before superbowl 50.
    • And don’t worry about Bryce he will be great… Peyton Manning had a horrible rookie year too 😂
    • Nothing wrong with it at all until you start telling others they are bad fans or not fans. But you are the good fan because you never say negative stuff about the team.    I did many years of that type of uninformed fanning because there really was no info and coverage like there is with the internet.    I mean, I used to go to the store and get Street and Smith’s annual football issue. That was about the extent of what you could get if you didn’t live in a big city with sportswriters covering and reporting.  There was no video to look at or replay the games and if you didn’t live in the market you could only rarely see your football team play.    TI have fanned since being a kid in the early 1960s, and as late as 1995 - ‘97 I lived in Atlanta and good luck getting more than 3 or 4 games a year on TV. No radio either. No print coverage outside of an AP recap and box unless they played Atlanta.  People today that have always had the network connection don’t know.    I wasn’t very educated about the Panthers until I finally got internet.
