Ben Navarro, "The Cool Cat"

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

A brief news story on Navarro by Morgan Fogarty, talking about his leadership style. Fogarty gives Navarro his own feline nickname.

From Big Cat to Cool Cat

Key quote...

Quote

Panthers employees, she says, would get this type of leadership from the man she calls Ben, not Mr. Navarro

Also of note, Fogarty uses the word "supposedly" when talking about NFL owners disliking how Navarro made his money.  Albert Breer reported that three owners did have concerns.  I had been wondering if there were more, but it's starting to look like those three may actually have been isolated on that front.

As previously discussed, I'm not dead certain it's just happenstance that we're seeing more stories about Navarro in the press.

Yeah, it’s not a coincidence that all these articles are being writen. Sounds like a done deal.

Two guys on here who know people involved (Maul Claw and Carolina Samurai) believe it's in process and will be a done deal soon enough.

And for the record, I fully expect that nickname to stick.

I don't know enough about the owners to be really invested in this race, but this was the guy I wanted the most since he seemed like the least likely to move or meddle with the team imo. The article sort of gives me a sense of relief the team would be in good hands. As long as he pays the right guys and let them do their jobs and step in only when needed, then I'm all for him.

You don't get to choose your nickname, shithead.

My nickname from my dad is Princess.

I will forever be referred to by my dad as poo-for-brains.

Not that I didn't earn that nickname during my teenage years.

I want Navarro to be the new owner.  I like what I've read of him much more than the others.

He sounds like someone I would be proud to have represent the Carolinas.

He didn't become a billionaire by being soft, but it doesn't sound like he's lost himself in the struggle.

Guy works his ass off, and it sounds like he expects the same of others.

Part of me wonders how that's going to medh with Rivera's philosophy that a coach doesn't have to be at the stadium at all hours to win.

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
