Move from 24 to 15

The NFL Network did their Live Mock Draft. The particiapants were  Daniel Jeremiah (@movethesticks), Charles Davis (@cfd22). Dave Dameshek, Christa Frelund, Colleen Wolfe, Bucky Brooks (former Panthers scout), Steve Mariucci, and Maurice Jones Drew.

In their mock, Minkah Fitzpatrick lasted until Pick 15. What would it cost the Panthers to move up from 24 to 15 get Fitzpatrick if this scenario played out on Draft night?

Here's the mock in case you missed it.

#1 Browns USC QB Sam Darnold (Jeremiah)
#2 NYG Penn State RB Saquon Barkley (Maricucci)
#3 NYJ Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield (Davis)
#4 Browns NC State DE Bradley Chubb (Jeremiah)
#5 DEN UCLA QB Josh Rosen (Jones Drew)
#6 Colts Georgia LB Roquan Smith (Brooks)
#7 TB Florida State S Derwin James (Wolfe) - not a fan of TB getting James, ugh.
#8 CHI Notre Dame G Quenton Nelson (Frelund)
#9 49ers Virginia Tech LB Tremaine Edmunds (Mariucci)
#10 OAK Ohio State CB Denzel Ward (MJD)
#11 MAI Washington DT Vita Vea (Dameshek)
#12 Bills Wyoming QB Josh Allen (Brooks)
#13 Redskins UTEP G Will Hernandez (Frelund)
#14 GB UTSA DE Marcus Davenport.(Brooks)
#15 AZ Alabama S Minkah Fitzpatrick (Wolfe)

Maybe I’m naive, but I think a 3rd can do it. If we trade up, i think it’ll be for DJ Moore. We’d have to jump Dallas to get him.

That’s the only scenario I can see us trading up

That would be a steal according to the draft value chart. Teams don't like giving away steals. #24 plus one of our 3rds gets us up in the #18 range.

Yea 18 is the highest I can see us moving up. Perfect territory to go After Ridley or Moore. Cowboys picking at 19 and Patriots at 22. Both teams need a receiver and both are the only 2 teams reported to have brought them both in on a visit in addition to us.

If we were to trade up those seem like the most likely targets and 1 of the 3rd's seems like the max compensation we'd consider parting with. I'd make the move for Ridley but I'd hold off on doing it for Moore.

Yep. That would make sense and a move like that wouldn't shock me.

    • Exactly.  You let him play out next season and continue to develop Thorton.  Jackson’s earned his next contract, but his age and the risk of tying up such a large portion of the payroll at one position leads me to believe that we’ll let him walk. In all likelihood, we’ll draft another CB, or two, and bring in some journeymen to fill the roster void, between now and the start of the 2027 season.  That’ll create more balance financially across the roster enabling us to invest in other areas.
    • As far as the NFCS … I think this division will be hotly contested the next couple of years.   I am tending to pay more respect to both Atlanta and the Saints n terms of how strong they will be moving forward, than not.    I am mixed on Ryan but think they have a decent roster to start with. I don’t think he blundered hiring Stefanski. And that offense can be dangerous with a QB. Plus, defense is arrow up. No 1st round pick, WB issues will dull their effectiveness. Question is, to what degree?   I think Moore is going to be a good HC and can overcome tape that people have on Shough. They need a lot but they were playing with people. Just the way you want to see all the way to the end.    Not sure about Tampa they have Mayfield but I don’t think they can maintain their success and Bowles is not going to last much longer. They have to go through all that. Gonna be tough once it starts. Might already have started.    For us I feel pretty good about Morgan. But less so about our offense, we have some short term RB and OL issues and those things are critical given what we are working with at QB.  Overall, mixed. Like a lot of what I see but some major question marks remain.
    • Absolutely. If we are talking about a 20 year old youngster. He's a grown-ass man, and he doesn't know what his job entails or how to do it? Maybe he will be better next year! It's the Panther way.
