Jarius Wright, for all intents and purposes, a coach

I've often thought that some Huddlers are fluffing up Jarius Wright's future role on the field as our primary slot receiver this season. Not saying that I don't think that he's good depth, but I don't believe that he's destined to become our version of the Pats' Wes Welker. In my opinion, there's just better talent that would have to be on the bench, or on ice, for Wright to see appreciable playing time come October. That being said, in addition to---perhaps---some clutch plays, he offers knowledge. And as I read between the lines, helping to teach Norv's system to the younger, more talented guys could very we'll be the primary reason Wright was acquired and paid such a WTF---err, surprising---signing bonus. The good thing is that he appears ready to embrace the role.

“I feel I could teach Norv Turner’s offense to a baby,” Wright says."

That "nugget" came up in Wright's discussion with Scott Fowler.

So, yeah, I could be totally off base, and simply being a little cynical about the Huddle's next big thing that never seems to reach expectations, but I think I may have figured the whole Wright situation out. Sure, he'll compete for the primary slot gig FWIW, but he'll also "coach," because he knows Norv's system like the back of his hand.

I don't believe a player has to have impressive stats to serve a purpose on a roster. If all he does is provide leadership and a veteran backup then he has been a successful addition.

If it's December and he has to fill in a few games would anybody be upset?

Yeah but why is Russell Shepherd still on the roster? Hurneymagic?

Because you need the bodies for camp, I don't see him on the 53, he doesn't add anything other than ST's ability, and IMO that ''ST Ace'' talk is just that, talk, run down the field, stay in your lane, and hit the guy with the ball.

Lane discipline, and not out kicking the coverage on punts is the biggest thing. You can't tell me Teddy Williams, or Russell Shepard are so good that you literally waste roster positions just for that, and to be the 5th or 6th at their respective positions.

Because for cap purposes, it makes more sense to cut him post June 1st, unless something has changed that I haven't kept up with.

I agree when your late night studying I'm pretty sure I'm a call my boy Jarius over Norv or someone on the staff for some late night clarity. And it seems like he's willing to teach this is going to be good, with his speed in the slot might get great production on and off the field.

Before asking that question, you would be better served to ask why Gettleman elected to sign Shepard over Ginn when the two have nearly identical contracts.

I think we were TRULY sick of those damn drops he played decent spaced the field out for us to be successful offensively. But those drops were costly and Dave always out smarted himself thinking anybody can produce given the chance. They use to joke ohhhh he caught the ball TD Ginn  lol I remember someone saying if he caught the ball some Cam would have had 40 pass TD.

    • Those euro games seem to have a tendency to be stinkers, like the Thursday night games used to be. Might still be. I don’t ever know what to take away from them.
    • You are? Fitterer kept telling the story about how they were 100% in line. He said they wrote down who they liked before and after the draft prep and they both agreed. Fitterer also talked about how he had his eye on Young during his sophomore year, which makes it even more puzzling that he didn’t trade Burns to make sure he could get Young in the next draft. Reich got a lot of excuses in here about Young because so many people loved the hire, but there was a lot of pre-draft discussions about GM and HC being in agreement. Heck, the point guard analogy came from Thomas Brown in February and Tepper still gets blamed for parroting what the coaches were invariably saying. Tepper has sucked because it’s his team but man does he get a lot of blame for decisions the football people said they made. I guess Rhule was enough of a personality that people focused on him but Frank and Scott got passes and Tepper was an easy target. It allowed the Fitterer and Reich fans to not feel as bad that they were wrong.
    • 2 more years 🤣   Is he going to get bigger in those 2 years?  Is he going to fix his mechanics in 2 years?  His flaws are unfixable.  And I seriously doubt Morgan and Dave want to anchor their jobs to Bryce for 2 more years.  Especially after Sunday.
