About that league investigation...

The league could technically conclude that the Panthers are guilty of wrongdoing because the NDAs were supposed to be reported to the league, and weren't.  That's a violation of the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy.

That said, I don't think they want to punish Tepper for Richardson's actions.  Don't be surprised if the Panthers fire their current counsel though.  Word is Tina Becker tried but was told by the lawyers handling the sale that it could hurt the sale price (I personally think that's bulls--t).

As to the question of how to punish Jerry Richardson, there's a very easy answer to that.

Get those NDA's nullified.

Let the accusers tell the world what happened.

Force the man who's obsessed with his legacy to have to live with what he's done.

Yeah, he's got money, but he's a guy with an immense ego who lives for admiration.

You want him to feel it?  That's where you hit him.

Wouldn't the NDAs have occurred significantly earlier than the sale was even a thought?

I don't know how the NFL would penalize the team for Richardson violating the personal conduct clause. Deflategate was about intentionally deflating balls to gain a competitive advantage.  Bountygate was coaches putting bountys on players. They are team sanctioned practices so team penalties are appropriate. But when the behavior is by the owner and it doesn't involve football on the field issues, then the penalty should be to the offending individual based on the personal conduct policy and relevant precedents. The culpability is being aware of it and not whistle blowing for fear of retaliation.

Penalizing the team would be pointless for the league.  It wouldn't stifle the outcry that the actual perpetrator got away with it and is not facing any consequences for his actions.

Also, do you think the league wants to go to battle with Tepper just a short time after he takes control of the team?  They will want a smooth, easy transition.  And nothing about Tepper indicates he'd take heavy sanctions laying down.

If they try to take draft picks or levy a heavy fine to the team, he'll be in the commissioners office staring down Goodell until the league backs down.  They wanted the bull...just don't poke it.

I don't buy that they'll penalize the team.

But yeah, let the accusers talk, and that should do it.

She took the money and signed a NDA

Should of came fwd before you signed and took the cash.

I sign these all the time in my line of work and I dare not even joke about  breaking them for fear these guys would sue and ruin me.

JR shouldn’t have broke the NDA. Would’ve never knew the details if he didn’t.

It’s not guaranteed he did. He talked to the owners about it but it’s vague what he said and if it constitutes breach. The accuser assumed it did and jumped to the podium. Lawyers need to figure it out now $$$

Jerry Richardson (deservedly) paid a substantial penalty for his misdeeds.  The league not only made him sell the team he founded, but they railroaded him into selling to their preferred partner for less profit.  His hush money deals have been dragged into the light of day.  No one in the league came to his defense in any meaningful display.  His legacy, which is important to him, is in ruins.   Case closed.  Let the Panthers rise up out of the ashes and celebrate a new day.

Being well tied in with a former NFL GM, my perspective from the usual backchannel gossip I get (this comes from coach lunches, offseason get-togethers, etc.), is that JR has been in a certain comedic "role" relative to the other owners and Goodell for the past 5 or so years...

Think of this type: The almost senile yet still coherent old guy, that people like on the surface, just enough to let him feel like he's part of things and being heard.  They've been wanting an exit from him and now they found one.

Honestly, he does sound weird as sh*t regardless of the extent of the creepiness (who writes letters like he did? And on cue cards? Even at borderline senile lol)

I love this team and the guy brought the team to Charlotte, but he's been whirling around like a kite.  Mark fell in love with one of the Charlotte Madam's employees (the real exit reason some years back) and honest, they needed to assure a transition.

TEPPER TIME

New owner, thank this guy, remove his statue, let's move forward.

I've heard similar things about Jerry, and Mark, from some folks who used to work there.
