What I’m saying is that going to a good school as an athlete is much different than going to that same school as a regular student. You’re ushered right through the admissions process and have access to a ton of tutors to make sure you stay eligible. Sure, there are very bright college athletes, but the “he went to duke” thing isn’t an automatic qualifier by any means.

Meh, nor is it a dis-qualifier. Listen, we all know that athletes get preferential treatment on campus, but the quality of the school is based on the quality of the education. With Duke being known for it's prestigious education, we can't discount the notion that the education he DID receive was of the elite quality.

I get the point you are attempting to make, but it's not the right circumstance to rob someone who graduated from Duke of their intelligence to understand our system. No matter how he was processed through his education.

Exactly, Duke sure isn't UNC in this regard. I'm not a fan of either but there is a difference.

WTH was wrong with his play on the highlight video. Maybe is because you haven't seen Panthers dbs play like that in a long time? You might want to make sure you didn't put the wrong video up. Wow I'm starting to wonder if the fans on this forum haven't went crazy!

I agree with @TheCasillas that this isn't the right place to make a statement like this. It's unfair and unnecessary to make a blanket statement about student athletes with no real knowledge of the individual. Ross Cockrell is by all accounts a smart guy. He didn't just go to Duke as a student athlete, then fail to graduate to become a pro. He spent all four years of his eligibility there and graduated with two degrees. He also didn't just go to any random college where he could play football. He went to Duke, which like it has already been said, is well known for its prestigious education. He will definitely be able to learn the Panthers defense, which is an improvement over some former Panthers DBs. If you want more evidence that he's a smart guy, I know first hand that Charlotte Latin is an academically challenging school, even for student athletes.

Maybe we can talk about the topic at hand instead of debating whether student athletes academic achievements are valid because of the NCAA minimum requirements. I think Cockrell is going to be a solid player for the Panthers for reasons already stated.

For the record, I actually clicked on this thread expecting a highlight reel for Jimmy Clausen or Armanti Edwards.

Do those exist?

Hurney has an entire collection of Armanti Edwards videos filed away in his erotic film section.

I’m not saying it is a disqualifier. It’s not. All I’m saying is that you simply can’t make any judgement on the matter one way or the other like the previous poster was attempting to do.

Not really sure what OP was going for with this thread.

Yeah, I kept looking for the underwhelming part, but other than 1 pass that should have been an INT, I couldn't find anything.

    • Most EVs are in the 90+ e-MPG meaning some measurement house somewhere compares the EV to a similar ICE model and works out how much is costs to charge (on average) versus fill up as a point of comparison. Talking long term, in the hundreds of thousands of miles?  No clue.  Some early signs are that EV batteries maintain 80% charge over 400k miles.  So there's that.   The challenge and charm of an ICE vehicle is being able to park it under a tree, get your jack stands out and tinker with your engine.  There's just not that same level of complexity in an EV.  I saw someone estimate there are 200 or so moving parts in an EV, and 2000 in an ICE vehicle.  I'm not a part counter so I can't really speak to that. I think that the EV is more the future than any type of combustion engine.  Those will still be around in specific purposes, but for most people - an EV will be the superior option in terms of efficiency.  I say that as someone who loves stupid horsepower numbers out of turbo 4 bangers and inline 6s...  I am one of those tinkers when I can be. A bigger issue for EVs is going to be the ownership versus lease.  Right now, there are INSANE leases on EVs, which is great, but what do you have at the end of that lease?  Nada, maybe some equity if you're lucky.  Where as I'm almost done paying for my car, and plan to keep it until the wheels fall off (or my son wrecks it when he starts to drive).  Will EV makers do the smartphone thing and build in planned obsolesce?  Stop updating software?  I love the tech in EVs, and I think getting more cars and trucks off the road is a good thing.  But I am still just a little concerned.  Capitalism has gotten far too extractive.
