Bad review for an old friend

I could definitely see Stew in a reliever position for Barkley late in games to keep him fresh.  Goal line runs seemed to be Stews forte' at the end, with his good leaping abilities.

I could see him playing a role like Jerome Bettis did in his later years.

It wasn't meant as a shot to J-Stew but reading it back it does look pretty nasty. It was INTENDED to be a shot at Gettlemen. Zero hatred towards Stewart at all. He was great for us. I think we did jump out at the right time, however, and we likely got an upgrade with Anderson.

Agreed on that, I have zero problem with us moving on from him at this point of his career (although I would probably have been fine with keeping him as a  reserve and having him retire a Panther if the price was right and we had the roster space).

Mentor for Barkley is a good role for him.

Precisely why he was brought in IMO.

DG knows him, and the 3.5M to mentor his very expensive, very young running back is worth every penny.

Can't imagine landing in NYC as a young man, with that much money.

1. Pretty sure they drafted Barkley

2. Pretty sure JStew isn't an everydown back

3. Pretty sure JStew can still crank it out in short yardage so Eli doesn't have to throw a game away at the goal line

WTF is this journalist expecting?

Some people just never seem to realize how bad the read options ruins a RB's ypc. Look at DWill when he left. I'm not saying Stew will have the same success, but he has a lot left, you'll see

Williams losing 15 pounds and having motivation from his feelings being hurt had nothing to do with it....

the read option didn't ruin stewart. he ran it all thru college.

if anything killed his ypc, it's the annual physical beating of creating your own yardage because the offensive line couldn't successfully run block a peewee league defensive line.

Truth. When you are known as one of the best backs at getting yards after initial contact and still average 4 yards or less, exactly how many times are you getting hit in the backfield or at the line of scrimmage.

The run blocking definitely didn't do him or CMC any favors last year, that's for sure. But even on the occasion where there would be a good hole, Stew just no longer had the burst to get through it.
