Ravens Pass Defense VS Short Passes: Averaging Top 3 In NFL.

Well, this isn't ideal. Riot Report shows a graphic showing their effectiveness against the short pass.

Yes, it isn't looking great for a team who lacks getting their best deep threat on the field consistently (Samuel). Hopefully that changes this Sunday and we start aiming for the deep passes.

And especially, hopefully this offensive line holds against the Ravens stout defense. Either way, this is definitely the best defense we'll face all year. It will be a challenge.

Then screw it, come out no huddle and work the intermediate and long passes...you know, that thing that worked against Philly.

Leave Armah and CJ in the backfield as extra blockers on pass plays, check down guys, and/or punishing runners. This should be a low-scoring smashmouth game and the winner will be the one who's D is the least tired in the 4th.

The battle of Panthers short pass O vs. the Ravens pass D will be one of the big determinants of this close matchup.

The Ravens have arguably the top pass D in the NFL but that is perhaps due to strength on all 3 levels of the D. They have sacked the opponents QB on 11% of pass attempts thus far. The Panthers OL protection of Newton is critical for team to have any hope of success.

The vertical game of Al Davis and Don Coryell would be suicide IMO for the Panthers against this Ravens D. Not only are the Panthers lacking elite vertical receivers, but their OL would be stressed beyond their talents to have any hope. The Panthers must be able to establish a run game and short outs to McC in order to slow down the Ravens pass D - then if they are able to control the TOP and establish a lead, Turner will be able to take his chances in the vertical game. This pass defense shut down Antonio Brown and Drew Brees for a reason.

To try and establish a vertical game against the Ravens D as the initial gambit will likely result in the Ravens grinding out a 2-3 score lead and having the Panthers rely on Newton to engineer a comeback against a DL that will be rushing with their ears pinned back. Nothing is impossible in a given game but nobody would put money on that scenario.

poo not with Cam's shoulder sore. This means Baltimore can tackle if they contain well. However, if they blitz heavy and Cam can dump off consistently it could open things up. If we go short, we better get Moore, Samuel and CMC to make some moves and bust it open. This will be a super tough game.

This game will not be won by what our offense does to their defense.

This game will be won by whether or not our defense can force Flacco into mistakes.

If we turn Flacco over and produce short fields we win.

If we turn the ball over ourselves, we lose.

Based on who? The Bengals? The Browns?

The Panthers are way better than this team who has played no one but the Saints and lost.

They beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh so "way better" is a reach, at least to this point.

The Steelers are not the Steelers of usual this year. They are basically as good as the Ravens which isn't great.

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
