Bad news for an old friend

Andrew Norwell is having his first season in Jacksonville cut short. He's out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury.

He was actually pretty terrible for them this season, outside of the injury.

Honestly weird how much he regressed. From what I’ve seen and heard he’s been quite bad.

Tbh that says a lot more about our o-line coach than anything.

Hindsight being 20/20 and all, I wish we had let both him and Trai walk.

Pay tackles, draft guards.

I'd have kept him over Trai, honestly.

Or our system.

Hackett is a name I typically associate with WCO attacks that typically employ zone and cut style blocking. Norwell might not have been a good fit.

If you look at our offensive production this season I think we made the right decision to let him go. Having him here would not have made the offense any better. Cam is having a great year throwing the ball and Christian could possibly go over 1,000 yds rushing and receiving.

 Retaining him only would have served to tie up a large percentage of our cap at both guard positions. With Ryan K leaving at the end of season (and brother Matt possibly being released) we can use that money to sign/or draft players to play C, T, or better yet, find some players on defense.

I always felt like Norwell was a big bust candidate because he i was clearly overachieving on a team with a scheme that really fit him. he was never going to wow with his physical skills its the reason why he went undrafted.

At least Norwell has a job, our old pal Bene Benwikere has been cut again.

I doubt it has anything to do with our coaching or scheme.

Guy got paid and said fug it. It’s why like 50% of big money free agent signings end up being busts. 

Look at Trai and KK. Neither one has played as well as they did the season before they got paid. I don’t think it’s coincidence.

Norwell was playing very well before the injury, not sure what you people are talking about... Not as good as he was last year but last year he was insanely good. Was still one of the few bright spots on the Jags' offense.

That was never going to happen, Trai flashed first and is younger. 

Norwell definitely sustained a higher level of play but they both always graded highly and the regime felt the could replace Norwell. 

And since he hasn't lived up to his new contract we'll never know if it's him being comfortable after being paid or he knows Bortles sucks and isn't motivated anymore.

It's an unfair knock but if you're getting paid the most at a position(top 2) people expect for you to play like the best or top two in the league.
