Why do casual football fans blame Cam instead of Ron for this mess?

Recommended Posts

I usually wear a Panthers visor when Im out and I get asked all the time, "Oh, you're  a Panther fan, how do you feel about that Cam Newton."  Its crazy how the question and disdain is emphasized exactly the same every time.  I go ahead and list off all the QBs we went through before we were blessed with Cam and talk about all the great things hes done for us.  Then they change the subject from football.

If Cam had a healthy shoulder we are probably in the discussion for winning the Superbowl. He had us at 6-2 with a bum shoulder. Then it just completely gave out on him.

I just pray he gets his full arm strength back, I miss those deep balls Cam use to throw to Ginn.

In real life I run into A LOT of fans who want to get rid of Cam, and I'm talking since his second season here. So it makes me wonder if a lot of the anti-Cam crowd is staying mostly silent on the Huddle.

During Cam's 1st season the Huddle was overrun by Auburn fans who signed up to support Cam. During draft time the majority of Huddlers wanted the Panthers to draft ANYONE but Cam. Some feared that Cam would be the next JaMarcus Russel, or that his rushing ability would be useless at the Pro level. I know because I argued against these fans. "That was COLLEGE" they'd say. Anyway the anti-Cam crowd ran smack into a hoard of newly signed up Auburn fans after the draft. Through attrition and Cam's good quality of play the anti-Cam fans faded into the background for the most part on the Huddle. This didn't happen out in the world. The anti-Cam fans are still up in arms outside of the Huddle in a major way.

I wanted the Panthers to draft Cam all along. A healthy Cam can win us a SB imo. That being said, it wasn't Ron who missed the game winning TD passes this season. Both Cam and Ron share the blame just like the rest of the team and coaching staff.

Casual fans only know what they see on the highlight reel, or lowlight reel depending on how things shake out. The don't know anything about Ron. They see Cam, and he's the hero or the scapegoat.

Literally everyone I talk to IRL who only casually follows the NFL says the same poo: Cam has got to go and Ron isn't that bad. How do I deal with these people?

I think the QB often gets more criticism and more accolades when things go wrong or right respectively.  I think this is amplified with Newton because he is a very larger than life figure for the Panthers.

Cam wins many games that the average QB can’t.  He also, from time to time, shits thebed on seemingly fundamental plays.  The latter is frustrating because everyone expects Supercam on every play.

unfortunately Cam is human and has flaws.  The thing folks fail to see is that even though Cam failed to execute on the play that cost you the game, he had a dozen or so other plays that kept you in the game to begin with.

TLDR,  Cam is great but not perfect.   His positives far outweigh the negatives.

Merry Holiday

Ron's fault he let his OC use Cam like a running back and surprise, surprise he's getting nagging injuries that don't seem to heal.

The amount of hits Cam was taking was a huge topic of discussion early in his career and when it would catch up to him. Father Time meet Cam Newton. Introductions performed by Ron Rivera and co.

    • To start with, you wouldn’t want to count up that value chart. You would see quickly where that is headed. But you basically did a quantity comparison, while ignoring quality.  I am looking at 2023 as the start, because it became all about Bryce.  2023 you have 4 picks plus DJ Moore for offense vs 2 (80 and 145) for defense.  2024 you got the 1st overall, the 32, the 46 and the 101 for offense vs 72, 157, 200 and 240 for defense. Leave the FA IOL out of it. Which was a crazy big  investment. But it wasn’t draft.  Anyway, that is basically 4 top 100 picks for offense and 4 picks for defense in 2024. Except they were 2 first rounders, the second rounder, and the 4th was really high at 101. Vs 72 and day three stuff. Please….  Second quoted/bolded… See you think we hate Bryce. That isn’t it at all. It is nice easy way to characterize us and discredit our talking points though.   Me, I do mostly hate watching him play. But I don’t hate the person. I hate the hell out of the stanning.  It started with the very first question I asked about his footwork, arm strength, and size. Height being the principle objection. I never even got to the durability factor. There was plenty without factoring that in.  But there was rabid opposition to even asking the question of what a couple of small fractions of a second extra closing time would do for the defenders.  What the extra time it takes to flip the hips would do vs a pass rush or on the other end after the ball is in the air. Split second more for recognition where it is going for the DBs.  The tippy toe backpedal.  That poo was a mess and it has always been mess but no Bryce fan wanted to hear it. “Go get another team to root for”. “It worked in the SEC it will be fine in the NFL you don’t know football you are just a hater”.  It got worse when the real games started. It has never stopped. It is nice that many people have left that train so there is less abuse but it hasn’t stopped.  So whatever…
    • Whatever school you attended, I don't know and I don't care, but I would suggest demanding a refund.    Something was completely missed there.
    • The draft capital since since 2023 has in no way been pretty even.  Especially when you zero in on day 1 and day 2 draft picks.  Draft capital has vastly gone toward the O over D.
