The only trade value he will ever have is as an expiring contract. And that still a ways off.

Exactly. I've read multiple articles that the team is desperate to trade him. Becomes hard to trade a guy making that money that just sits on the bench

I don't know, I'd almost bench him and then leak a rumor that there is locker room problems.    I think this is better than A) letting him play because he sucks and B) benching without the rumor so people think he's bad.

I feel the cat is out of the bag at this point though.

If there is any GM in the NBA that even considers a trade for Batum they should be fired immediately.

Was Batum that good coming from Portland?  Was he a free agent when we signed him?  I didnt follow the NBA much then but even I said that’s too much for him.

 

Could they just but him out possibly?

He had a pretty good contract year, he would have got paid elsewhere if not here. The Hornets felt as if they needed to overpay to keep him and he has sucked more and more every year since

Batum was a great piece his first two years here and a perfect compliment to Kemba. However, his play has dropped off a cliff since he signed his mega deal.

Batum is our 2016 FA contract that almost every team has on their books (actually we have 2 = Batum & Marvin)..

When the cap went through the roof because of the new TV deal the NBA signed - it was terrible for a lot of middle of the road teams.. everyone basically could sign a MAX player - even teams that were close to the cap the year before.. it's the only reason KD was able to go to the Warriors..

superstars got MAX money, fringe allstars got MAX money and role players got really bloated contracts.. unfortunately we had 4 key FAs hit the market that offseason.. Batum, Marvin, Courtney Lee and Jeremy Lin.. all four players got huge contracts that their 'play' didn't warrant but the market definitely did..
