Do we need a CB?

To get paid like a top 5 CB, you have to play like a top 10-15 CB. Norwell is the current highest paid OG. Does anyone think that he's actually the #1 OG? Previous contract set the baseline for future contracts. A top 5 CB needing a new deal is going to be the new highest paid CB.

Even if that's true, Bradberry is still a far cry away. Consistency is the key!

That is very true.  The position itself almost has a base pay.

So under those conditions would you be ok paying Bradberry top 5 money.  If not then CB becomes a even bigger need.

Trust and believe that Bradberry will get a top 15 CB contract if he has another season similar to this past one. Our outside CBs weren't our problem on defense. Our lack of a pass rush was by far and away our biggest issue followed by a weakness at safety (which has been true more often than not for the Panthers, we just try to compensate with pass rush) and the lack of an NFL caliber nickelback. Captain spent last season in the doghouse for a reason. He was washed up and he copped an attitude when he didn't get the PT he expected. Come this season he woke up and was just happy to keep cashing a fat check.

Bradberry is the new Gamble.

We have two very good corners but no nickel. We get that and our corner position is great for a while

No he isn't. Gamble had seasons with 6 or more picks and didn't have to line up 5 yards in front of the WR.

Both were/are underappreciated. Gamble didn’t get many interceptions, he was just a really good coverage corner.  Bradberry doesn’t have to line up five yards off, that’s just Rivera’s defense.  He has every corner so that. He had Norman doing that. Bradberry is a really good corner who’s best when he is allowed to play press, rather than rivera’s 5 yard cushion.

?

Gamble had 16 ints his first 3 seasons (6, 7, and 3)

Norman has 13 on his whole career

Bradberry has 5 his first 3 seasons (2, 2, 1)

Gamble had ball skills, you could tell he was a starter WR at Ohio State.

Bradberry has no ball skills.  Bradberry is solid but not a top 10 CB.   Plus he is very inconsistent (if the dude can just learn to turn his head and read a QB he could've had plenty picks)

Do agree he is Much better playing up on man.  If you let him be physical he is pretty good (see first Tampa game this year where he shut Evans down).   If not you get the Zay Jones wide azz open (dropped game winner).  Julio getting open, etc.

I’m not saying Bradberry is an interception machine, I’m saying he’s a good CB. Gamble had 6 and 7 ints his first two years, 4 a few years later, and a bunch of 0-3 int years the rest.  When he’s allowed to play to his strength he very well may be a top 10 CB.  When Ron does his usual thing of trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. He gets burned sometimes.

People think every corner in the league sucks if they're not Deion Sanders.

In case you missed it, 12 QBs threw for 4,000 yards (would have been 13 if Brees didn't sit last week of the season), and two threw for over 5,000.  Corners WILL give up yards and touchdowns in the league today.  Bradberry is good, Jackson was one of the top defensive rookies in the league.  Cockrell is the big tossup here.  If he can come back and be effective on the outside then we can move Donte into the slot and we're in business.  Huge question mark though.
