So we are going hard on a safety in the awesome pass rusher draft? That likely means they wanna draft edge in the 2nd or 3rd. I cannot see that as a winning strategy.

Why do we continually push for these lower round project edge rushers?

Maybe we shell out the big bucks for pass rusher(s) in free agency...?

Has to be.  The report makes no sense.

I’m being kinda sarcastic.

At the same time, the Patriots just showed what good coverage will do,.. we haven’t had decent coverage since Norman.

nothing would surprise me except drafting a running back first—

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline reports that the Carolina Panthers will "go hard after safeties early in the 2019 NFL Draft."

Pauline had the Panthers select Alabama S Deionte Thompson with the No. 16 overall pick in his recent mock draft, but Nasir Adderley would also be in the mix as a first-round safety. Thompson is a first-team All-American, received high grades from PFF after a hot start to the season, and Shannon Sharpe even boldly compared Thompson to legendary safety Ed Reed. The Panthers could address safety concerns during free agency, but if not, consider the Panthers a candidate to take a safety sometime during Day 1 or Day 2.

No to Thompson. He looked worse and worse as the season went on. The title game was just yikes.

Here's the original thread about it, and not really true because it would have happened. Hurney's also the guy who took Sherrod Martin in the 2nd and both Gaulden and Godfrey in the third, which isn't first round but is considered early in the draft by most.

The Director of Player Engagement is the guy who tells the players how to eat right, save and invest their money, not get ripped by gold diggers, and make the right lifestyle choices ect. They let this guy have access to war room big board information? He tweeted it? Hmmmm. By early I was meaning 1st round. If we take a safety in the 50's I won't be surprised, but if we take one at 16th I'll fall out of my chair.

They also showed what a good front 7 can do.

They were pressuring Goff all night, shut down any run attempt

Actually DBs were out of position a Lot, jist pressure on Goff caused bad throws.  Added in with some bad drops, and DBs making some lucky recoveries after being beat.

The 4 sacks and 12 QB hits was the story of the game.

Sad that our DL couldnt even touch Eli Manning or Stafford behind the leagues worst OL.

You have to take reports like this with a grain of salt.  The team hasn't even come close to finishing their evaluations, the combine and pro days are still weeks away, and most importantly, FA hasn't even started yet.  The most you can get out of a report like this is that they recognize Safety as a big need.

With that said, I think Adderley could have a HUGE effect on our defense (I'm not a fan of Thompson at all, and think he could be one of this year's big droppers).  I see some legitimate Earl Thomas comps for him with his coverage ability, range, and ability against the run.  So, I wouldn't be philosophically against him, but we would need to find an edge rusher, LT or RT, C, and LG in FA before we should look at Safety.
