Guesses on Cam's next contract? And, when will he sign it?

My belief is this team's future is heavily depended on Cam Newton's health.  He is going to be up for another contract soon and with his shoulder issues, there are a lot of question marks there.  I'm sure there are other teams in the league that will pay him rather handsomely and we will have to compete with those teams.  In other words, we'll likely have to overpay a QB that is past his prime and is losing one of his primary weapons, his running ability.

Does anyone think there is any possibility we decide to not continue with Cam Newton and go a different direction?  If not, how much are we willing going to give him?

I think assuming he comes back healthy and has a very good season next year, his next contract will be something like 5 years 130 million, 90 million guaranteed or something like that.  If I was owner / GM I would have to see a full season of a healthy Cam Newton before I invested anything like that into him.  He could be permanently damaged goods for all we know now.

Pretty impossible to know right now. In the first half of last season he was proving he deserves to be a top 8 QB in the league on his next deal. Of course in the second half he had us all wondering if he can ever stay healthy for a full season again.

If that shoulder holds up this year, we make sure he’s our QB for the next five seasons. If not, he may well be on his way out sadly

If the masses get their way, new HC and GM, Cam won't be signing an extension with the Panthers, regardless of his health.

Interesting point.  If Cam  does not have  a great season, it will be interesting.

Depending on how we finish, Cam's health, and how committed Tepper is to winning, we could end up starting over from scratch in the GM/HC/QB categories. Another year like this last one and we should be seriously considering it.

I'm hoping for a lombardi this year so I'm not going to worry too much about the next year.

At this point, I'm more worried about surviving this year and playing well enough to need a new contract.

This. I'm not even concerned about his next contract right now. I'm concerned about that throwing shoulder. If it recovers and he returns to form then we can worry another that next contract. If it doesn't, then we have a much bigger problem to figure out. I'd MUCH rather have to negotiate a contract than try to find another franchise QB.

    • I was going to joke and have the Chiefs throw in 2 first rounders..... But as soon as the Mahomes/Bryce trade comes through we need to hit accept and have Mahomes on the very first flight out here; no negotiation needed lol.
    • It will be interesting this year to see if spending time with some of the best QBs and play callers in the league changed Wentz at all. I really think Mills is starter material. He wasn’t awful despite being apart of two dumpster fire seasons before Demeco got there. Plus he would have zero issues seeing over the line.
    • I feel like for once every one of those guys held back. And I think there is a 5'9 100% attitude guy that they're almost hesitant to speak out against. This is the fact of the matter, it's sports. When you win, fans cheer. When you lose, fans boo. Especially consistently year after year with no end in sight. Instead of just talking about us being the Bible belt maybe talk about how we've never once in the franchise history had back to back winning seasons. We love the team, we loved and celebrated Cam and Steve, and even guys like Jake that we love not just because of talent but because of his spirit as the face of the team. But they all won.  Fans pay a lot of money on gear, and on these overpriced tickets to go out and see a horrible product. I've slowed down on watching games because I realized I was spending 4 hours of my day getting annoyed watching a consistently bad product. Outside of a few hopeful games at the end of last year Panthers football hasn't even been enjoyable to watch. When I flip the channel to a Ravens/Eagles game it almost feels like I'm watching a different sport.  I wouldn't just focus so much attention on the city, I'd ask based on the results are they justified.
