I know Wes is JAG but do you think we will re sign him if he comes back for close to vet minimum or do we let him walk no matter what? Also what about Love? I am surprised that he is still available at this point.

There are still a lot of surprising DL still available. I mean, Suh and Ansah are still unsigned. I think after the first wave of free agency this year all the other teams were essentially happy to wait and see if they could land a guy in this deep DL class instead of paying a FA. Suh and Ansah are probably just wanting more $$$ or more years than teams are willing to offer them at their age. There will inevitably be some teams who don't have the draft fall their way for DL and they'll get signed.

Both will be back unless they find a big payday elsewhere. Horton knows the system and is excellent as a run stopper. And there's no way RR is going to leave the Round Mound of Bring 'Em Down on the couch this season.

Both are lunchpail guys that come in and do their work, no fuss, no screw-ups. They are the kind of guys that never make the national coverage but real Panthers fans get to see these guys doing the hard work on a regular basis.

Due to Love's age and the fact the DT depth is better than DE, Horton probably has the better chance of returning.  Love will be back only if nobody else is interested (which is highly doubtful) considering his diminishing role and tight cap space here in Carolina.  Being as thin as we are at DE, I'm fairly confident Horton will be offered a contract if he can't manage to land somewhere else.  Probably another 1-year deal for around the veteran minimum.

With the depth of talent at DL in this year's draft some teams might be hesitant to sign anyone until after the draft.

Love is 32 and Horton is 29, and never been better than pretty good. Their agents' phones aren't ringing off the hook. That being said, Love played very well last year and Horton is a solid backup, especially against the run. I could see them both getting picked up next month. I hate to loose Love.

    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
    • It is goofy how some people hate Bryce so much that they're flat out lying to try and remain entitled to their pessimism. It's insanity. Most fans are realists and eagerly awaiting the season to see if we get pre- or post-benching Bryce to start the season and how much he is able to do with some young and developing weapons. Many of us understand that these young guys are going to have growing pains on the job as well as the new defense, but the fans with all of the excuses for why Bryce can't be successful are pounding the no excuses drum. Personally, I'd prefer the Keep Pounding drum.
