Hurney says Gaulden could start this year.

Our DC was in over his head last year, our DBs coach was just collecting a paycheck and Rivera let the defense/team overall get two flat tires and major front end damage before grabbing the wheel and steering us back onto the road. Everyone on D struggled last year until Rivera took back over. I'll admit that it's tempting to lump in Gaulden with Butler, Sanchez, Worley, etc., but he deserves to at least go through a training camp with an engaged coach, who will actually try to get something out of him.

Hurney and Ron are really trying to push this...  I saw Gaulden play.  They clearly either are very secure in their jobs or don't care if they lose them if Gaulden is part if their masterplan.

Ugh this is the part of the offseason when we dissect and freak out over every little comment our front office says in their numerous interviews.

We have no entrenched starter at FS...it’s pretty devoid of obvious talent, meaning the competition is pretty much WIDE open. I’d be concerned if our second-year 3rd round FS wasn’t given a chance to compete for the starting job.

Went back to watch some tape on Gaulden and I really hope they don't see him as a FS. Guy has line of scrimmage ability and decent tackling, but absolutely no downfield coverage speed. To me he's at best a nickle corner or Strong Saftey.

We freed up some room with Kuechly. Wouldn't be surprised if we sign a FS.

I know everyone, including me, wants us to go get the best available FS. But, the best scenario is for Gaulden to win that job with his rookie contract and continue to develop.

Maybe Hurney is saying that Gaulden flashed someone in the stands because I don’t remember anyone talking about how good he looked in any games he played in

Sign Boston, move Gaulden to dime back or as a rotational third safety with Reid and Boston. Gaulden is a project that is not a starter beside Reid, he's more SS than FS.
