Too small. Can't run inside. Not an every down back. Product of program and weak competition strength.

That's some stupid stuff in the rear-view mirror there.

The kid was going to be great all along.

Ill be honest.  I am one of those guys eating my words about CMC.  When he was picked, I was not excited.

I am extremely happy to be proven wrong to such a degree that I should feel ashamed.

Some good snippets from David Newtons article

Workhorses

The running backs who played the most snaps in the regular season in 2018:

RB SNAPS PCT.

NFL Next Gen Stats

C. McCaffrey 924 91%
Ezekiel Elliott 847 83%
Saquon Barkley 815 83%
Todd Gurley 787 75%
David Johnson 714 79%
  • The numbers, according to ESPN Stats & Information research, show McCaffrey was quite effective between the tackles last season. His 5.04 yards per rush ranked sixth among qualified running backs, and it was the best among the 15 running backs with 150-plus interior rushes.

That's true for a lot of guys, but I doubt guys like CMC, Cam, etc. are working any harder during TC than they are during their off-season conditioning programs. There's a reason why some guys are elite and others just have unfulfilled elite potential.

Whats sad about KB is that we saw flashes of what he could be. He never had speed but I literally saw him toss defenders like rag dolls on few different occasions and he could probably outjump any defender from his size alone. Its a damn shame we wasted such high draft capital on Funchess and Benjamin and neither of them worked out..

Least Funchess didn't leave the team behaving badly. I wish him the best in Indy, he could be pretty decent compliment to TY Hilton if he could catch consistently.

Yep. Prime example. I'd say Kris Jenkins too if I'm being honest. He was elite for awhile, but his career was cut short by knee injuries that his constant weight issues could not have helped. He always showed up to training camp well over his playing weight. He had HOF potential.

My only hesitation was having the RB position eating that rookie pay, but at this point, I just consider him a playmaker that primarily operates out of the backfield.

Kris Jenkins I would have no doubt have been a Hall of Famer if he had a healthier career. He took on guards like Hutchinson and Larry Allen like they were nothing. Absolute monster and quickness for a man that size. Unfortunately, he was a 3-tech in a nose tackle body.

I remember his last big injury with us was him absolutely blowing up the middle and getting in quickly but the QB moved away. Kris tried to stop and move laterally, but his body could only handle so much and blew out his knee.

CMC is like having 2 players in 1 - a stud RB and high level WR. That second contract is going to be a doozy in 3 years.

NFL trend is to tag at the end of the deal, so we could have him up to 7 years without having to extend his contract and commit to multiple years of guarantees. So that 3 years at this point could very well become 5.

Now with that said I think we will extend him at the end of his rookie deal, I'd be surprised if we let him go into a franchise tag situation.

Don't forget being "force fed" despite Rivera blocking him from 1k rush/1k rcv yds, having to "overcome his positional value", or whatever other nonsense some posters will put in a desperate attempt to bait with.

I'm not mad at them, though some of us keep receipts too. :Eyes_Emoji_42x42:

Much like Funch I think Benjamin would have worked under the right circumstances. If he had been drafted to a team where he could have just been a red zone specialist, or where there was enough pass protection to make up for his lack of speed, things may have gone differently. We needed him to be more than that and I think he cracked under the pressure when his mom passed.
