Ross Cockrell

This guy was getting plenty of hype on here last year before the injury.  And it seemed it was assumed he was going to be the starting CB across from Bradberry.

Unless I've missed it.  But there hasnt been much coverage of him at all.  I dont think I heard his name mentioned at all in OTA's

@Jeremy Igo @RoaringRiot or anyone who has sources that were at OTA's.  Did anyone catch how he was looking conditioning wise and hiw he looked in coverage/drills?

If he can return back to what we expected him to be, thatd be big.  Especially considering putsode of Bradberry and Jackson.  The CBs are a big question mark

He has been running with the ones and looks good. Glad to see him back. That was a nasty break. Can still hear it.

Who's spot has he been taking with the 1's?  Bradberry or Jackson's?  Or has he been on with the 1s specifically in nickel packages with the other 2.

Both. There is a ton of subs in OTAs. He has also lined up at nickel

After watching Captain just kill us last year.  If Cockrell can come back to full form.  That trio gives me real hope with this defense.

Feels like 2015 when we had a

A CB coming off a big rookie season (Bene was rated the top rookie CB his rookie year).  Jackson is coming off a big season

A #1 CB going into a contract season wearing #24

A 3rd solid vet CB while Cockrell isnt quiet Peanut comparison.  He's been in for a minute

Cockrell just may be a reason why Gaulden probably really needs to lock down the safety spot to secure his future.

Cockrell might just turn the whole CB group upside down (in a good way). Competition is a good thing! I'm sure that he has designs on starting. It will be interesting to see what transpires.

I'd love to see us run more match up coverage this year, whether it's in the form of man coverage or match up zone. Especially with the Bradbury/Jackson combo. Bradbury excels against bigger WRs where Jackson has the speed to match up with the burners, but at the same time, if you play those guys as pure LCB/RCB it's pretty easy for the opposition to create match up problems for us.

    • This is huge may not be a trap game but this plays a major part in what they want to do. If we can get some pressure on Sam we know what he does with pressure coming hit and heavy. Also we may be able to take the top off their defense a backup safety trying to stop TMac or Cooker over the top or forcing him to play the backend should allow us to run the ball somewhat effectively. Either they allow some runs or we take some shots and if Bryce and whoever can connect deep we’ll be in business for another big time win against a top notch opponent. Might not be a trap game but health travel game plans all play a major role in each weeks game plan and this week might be leaving our way. We’re missing some replaceable pieces they’re missing key anchors to the offense and defense major difference time to solidly ourselves at one of the top teams in the nfc tomorrow fellas buckle up.
    • Yes.  If I am not mistaken, we need to sign Coker to the ERFA tender and insist that XL spends his spring and summer at a WR camp and not Coon huntin on his four wheeler.  XL was raw when we picked him--which is why I wanted to go another direction--and we are seeing how raw.  He is basically learning a position.     The Panthers will make their move in 2026 to be an NFL powerhouse behind Bryce.  Bryce needs intelligent WRs who catch the ball.  That said, we need a solid #2 to challenge XL and make cutting him easy, if necessary.  A #2 WR (intented to be a #1 by now) with under 400 yards is embarrassing.   On offense, you have to ask, "Where can we get better?"  In my view, #2 WR, TE (although they are improving) and maybe C (again, if we re-sign Mays, he is trending up and at 26, entering his prime--I say stay with him and find competition later in the draft (not good for C).  OL depth maybe?  In other words, XL is a glaring weak spot.
