As I said the first time you quoted me...he's not great.....however he has fielded a more competitive team, over a longer period that the Panthers ever have.

I DO NOT like him as a GM, but he's not trash either.  13-3, 13-3, 12-4, 12-4.  You do that, 4 years in a row, and you aren't going to have many high draft picks to go after a QB.  All of your 2nd, and 3rd rounders are at the back of the round.

He's trash I hear....well, he's certainly better than anything we've ever had per the record.

Got Manning to come there when he had juice left in the tank.  Made a SB run with John Fox in charge, saw he couldn't get it done, made a change and won the damn thing 2 years later.

Again, not great by any means, but has a better track record than Hurney and Gett's.

He's trash. Yes, Hurney was trash in his first tenure and Gettleman was trash in hindsight. Elway was just a flash in the pan no doubt helped tremendously by his legacy as a QB in terms of getting people to work for him. The long game is showing his real abilities and like I said before that sent you howling, it's largely due to his inability to find a QB.

This is true

But watching Olsen the last few seasons keeps me a little nervous with Paradis

As someone who has  broken their 5th meta tarsal (as Olsen has) , as well as my 2nd 3rd and 4th,   I can tell you that a Jones fracture which is what they call the 5th metatarsal break where Olsen broke it, is a completely different sort of animal as far as healing than a fibula.  The fifth meta tarsal is notorious for poor or non joining unions because  they fractures occur in an area of low blood supply .  About 25-40% of them result in non or poor   unions of the break as Olsens did.  That he already had the screw in place and used a bone stimulator to help regrow the bone saved him many weeks of being in a hard cast or walking boot last season and let him return last season about 3 weeks after rebreaking his foot.  Paradis may be a bit rusty. but IMO I see almost no reason to be concerned with his fibula.

Let's see---does Marty sign or draft injured players?

Draft--

Brandon Hogan

Jonathan Stewart

Free Agency--

Jake Delhomme  (coming off Tommy John surgery--overpaid horribly)

Dan Morgan  ($28m extension:  " The only drawback with Morgan is the time he has missed to injuries during his career. In four seasons, he has been sidelined for 22 games. ")

Just a few examples--, fwiw.

He's been better than Hurney at every turn as far as I can see so far.

After he took over he went 13-3, 13-3, 12-4, 12-4 with two Super Bowl appearances and 1 Super Bowl win.

The last few years have been tough as he hasn't been able to find a QB, but to say he stinks is kinda crazy to me.

It may be that I just really can't stand the guy and haven't been able to since his playing days.

The job of a GM isn't to find a QB.  The number 1 job of a GM is to put a football team on the field that can win a Championship.

He as done that, almost twice in his short career.

I'm not saying that Elway is great, because he does some boneheaded things for sure, but for us to praise Hurney 2.0 and bash Elway....man, that's tough to understand.

Is that howling to you?  If so, I wonder what screaming looks like.

You said the job of a GM is to find a QB.  I responded that it's not his job to find a QB, it's his job to field a football team capable of winning a championship.  The Ravens haven't had a good QB on their roster in years, but somehow managed to make it to the playoffs a LOT more than us, and win a Super Bowl.  You think that Ozzie was a trash GM?

I do not like Elway, I think that his QB play is vastly overrated, I do not think that he is a great GM, but he's been better than anything that we have ever had, and he's fielded a more consistent team in his tenure than we ever have as a franchise.

LOL @ this dude still howling. Needs more bold.

Hurney fuging sucks and I’m honestly scared to death of this season. RR+Cam+Luke can’t save him and he’s probably going to take all three down with him this season. I hate being a pessimist. Hopefully we buck the trend since Hurney took backover.

I definitely have serious doubts about Hurney after his first stint, that's for sure

Sorry, just the pessimist in me talking. I hate that RR is taking the heat for Hurneys shortcomings but Tepper really seems to be a long game guy which I like. We’re going into unknown territory, it’s going to be fun either way.

Lotta people on this board were penciling in Larsen as the starter after Kalil--if you are one of them, you don't watch OL play.  He is a fringe backup. Since then, some have pursued a medical degree and are now diagnosing an injury they know nothing about.  Man, how great it would be to have that kind of intelligence.

I would love to see some real competition for the reserve C spot--Van Roten, Hearne, Johnson--etc.

To get a good value in free agency, you have to take a risk.  This is that risk.  Am I worried about the OL?  Not as much as last year, but we have too many loose ends now.  Hopefully, by the third preseason game, we will know.
