Michael Thomas holding out of Saints camp for new deal (turned down saints offer, wants to be highest paid in league)

I'm all for the Saints paying him out the nose. He's never had a 100 yard game against us. Bradbury matches up very well against all of the opposing #1 WRs in our division. Mike Evans, Julio Jones, and Michael Thomas are all absolutely elite NFL WRs but none posted a 100 yard game against us last year despite our weak pass rush and Bradbury is the primary reason for that.

Cap not being able to cover anybody in the slot was also a big factor... Why take a chance throwing to your #1 when you have an easy 15-20 yards throwing at Cap

Both want new deals, Payton and Drew went on record in saying Hill was the best player in in the league.

Brees said he's the "most dangerous" in that discussion with Peter King. Unfortunately for society, he's also equally dangerous off the field as well considering his record...

Owners can only spend x amount of money on players due to the hard cap. Taking $20M per year just leaves a helluva lot less for your teammates. If the NFLPA actually cared about it's entire membership they'd be pushing for max contract stipulations like the NBA has and probably for a significant bump in minimum salary. That would be beneficial for the majority of the players who aren't non-stars.

Yeah but the NBA also has a soft cap.

Saints just released WR Cam Meredith...he just couldn't overcome the injury the Bears thought he had when they released him.   Saints gambled and lost.

Now Thomas has even more leverage.

We ain’t finna play like we ain’t made for it.

And I can lose it all tomorrow if I move the wrong way.

Still, their player market is much more limited than it is in the NFL. Imagine what a guy like LeBron or Anthony Davis or Steph Curry would get if it weren't for max contracts. It would create a much better competitive balance if they'd get rid of the max contracts but it would take money out of the pockets of those second and third tier players.

I don't really have a problem with the way the NBA does things. It is a decent mix of allowing players to have some control while stacking the deck in the home teams favor.

I don't think the max contract thing is even as big of a deal to the elite guys. They all just want to team up in places they want to be or situations they want to be in.
