Very happy. He was over my house a couple of weeks ago. Fun guy and he's proven the 2 years away he can play (better than he did with the Panthers). We got all the pieces now, let's just win.

Yes... go on

The biggest value in signing him that he is a legit FS, and not a conversion project.  He may not be great, but he at least knows what to do back there, and is used to seeing the field that way.

And I don't think this indicates that Gaulden is a bust in any way.  My guess is that he is a more natural SS than FS.  He played decently closer to the line of scrimmage last year, but it was down the field where he looked lost at times.  So, maybe big nickel and backup SS is where he best fits.

Boston is a 5 year vet and a smart guy. Fewell asked Ron to upgrade safety and move Gaulden to nickel which is his best position. Ron asked Hurney to reach out to Boston, Boston gave us a good deal because he said we were a playoff team missing one piece. So he joined to finish what he started. And here we are.  Everything coming together. Forces aligning. Do you feel it????

With Gaulden shelved. How pissed are you the we could have had Ronnie Harrison or traded up for Reid.

Not at all.  Harrison is firmly a SS who is poor in coverage.  And quite honestly, he wasn't anything to write home about last year either.  IMO, Eric Reid is much better that Harrison will ever be, so I think we came out ahead passing on him.

Now Reid is good, and I like him, but it would have likely cost to much to move up.  And I wonder why he fell.  Either there were some red flags we don't know about, or there were holes in his game that were uncovered as teams did their deep dive on him.  After all, it's not just the Panthers that watched him fall way past the point the so-called analysts said he would.

But it would have been cool to have an all-Reid safety tandem.

    • My biggest fear with Bryce Young is that he will always do just enough to stick around. He shows flashes and then drops a turd so the hopium is always there. Like his career highlight reel if you cut it up to some hype music and did a YouTube video would actually be quite good. His great plays really, really look good. But after that video you look at his yearly averages for completion percentage, yardage, touchdowns, and virtually every other metric and it is meh as fug. Like you know Bryce is gonna be 13/23 for 157 yards a touchdown and probably a pick.  I will 100% give him his flowers for his athleticism and ability to scramble outside the pocket. I haven’t seen the mythical “super processing ability” he was touted for per se, but he has shown flashes of absolutely elite awareness when it comes to scrambling. The little basketball move he does to shake defensive linemen has almost become a signature move. It’s hard to explain but you know it when you see it he stops on a dime and pivots like he is gonna hit a step back jumper and it has gotten him out of a lot of trouble.  I sincerely, truly, as a vocal Bryce HATER, hope that since we are obviously running with him next year the coaching staff actually tailors plays around his strengths. He needs to be in a pure spread IMO. His size is much less of a hindrance when he can play QB in open space. I feel like most of his highlight reel is from scrambles and play action/bootlegs.
