It's the freakin' preseason, people.

Sure, Cam's injury sucks and it appears our backups/team does as a whole right now, but JFC people settle down.

All preliminary indicators are that Cam's going to be fine.

The offense we've been running in these games is very very vanilla, with a bunch of somewhat nobodies, The defense we've been running hasn't been any real representation of what it will look like when games start counting.

Our stars aren't really playing, and when they are in there, it is for go-through-the-motion vanilla looks.

You shouldn't be watching these games hoping for lots of big, amazing plays. It isn't going to happen.

If you are so upset and ready to throw in the towel already, you just have an agenda against certain people/storylines or you just don't know what is going on from a football perspective.

THE ONLY real item of concern right now should be Cam's injury, and I expect we'll know a lot more about that later today. Until then, settle down with all that nonsense y'all've been talkin' 'bout since last night.

There's one, absolutely meaningless, game left until it starts counting. Stop being so eager to jump overboard.

I know this doesn’t compare to the NFL one bit but just stating it out there bc of the possibility...but not too long ago I played for a rugby charlotte club and during the pre season we got completely crushed and murdered, completely out of sync in many ways.  Regular season came and we only lost one game and eventually won the state championship, so everyone...have some hope lol.

With all do respect, you should practice like you play.  The plays may be vanilla, but the energy and execution is poo-stain brown --- I think that is why everyone is so worried.  I also think there are a lot of positives getting overshadowed by the glaring negatives, but this level of energy and execution that we've brought to the table has to be addressed (which I know they will) if we expect to be able to win football games.

Even when the season starts, the first 6 weeks can be an ugly curve towards competency. Every year I talk to friends who can't believe the sloppy play and lack of cohesion and I'm like yeah, it still early and teams are still settling and we had this conversation last year. So buckle up it's not just one more preseason game, it's that game and real games too. At week six we will know what we have. Last year that was when Pitt reamed us and that was the look we produced until the last game of the year.

It may be only the preseason, but this certainly looks like the typical unprepared, undisciplined and unmotivated Ron Rivera coached teams we've seen for 8 years.  He's shown us exactly what he is time and time again, and we're supposed to believe he's going to magically learn how to prepare and coach between now and Week 1?  Doubtful.

Rivera sucks--even with Cam Newton, the reason he has a job, his job has been on the line about 4 times--and he was coach of the year twice!  He is a biorhythm--he gets out-coached routinely.  He has difficulty making adjustments. An inside source (I used to have one-or my friend did) once said that his biggest fear of RR was in the fact that his MO is as a player's coach--he becomes close with his core players and motivates by challenging the outsiders to want into that core.  He has a class system.  I guess all do, but the source added that RR gets too emotionally and personally  involved with the players in the core.  That was about 5 years ago, but I never forgot it.

Are you singing his praises, though, when he does the good things?

It is kinda low odds to get coach of the year. Rivera's done it twice.

He's frustrating as hell sometimes, yes. But, ultimately, I do believe he is one of the better coaches in the league.

As far as him getting to attached to players and having a "core," this happens with every team in every sport. If you play better and get better, then you're going to find your way into that circle anyways.

It sounds like bitter current players or former players making excuses because they weren't good enough tbqh.

Give me one instance, right now, were someone isn't going to be getting the PT they deserve when Week 1 rolls around.

When we cut/trade/IR Gano, and keep Slye, are people going to say that Ron has an inner circle of players and that he won't give people their fair shot?

Whether you win or lose a preseason game is of very little value. However, the quality of play in the preseason (especially in the third preseason game) is of instructive value.

In a word, the performance of the offense last night was offensive. I hope that once the season starts the word that comes to mind will be aberration. Coming on the heels of last week's poor performance, I am worried that the word that will come to mind regarding the game last night once the season starts is ominous.

    • Call me crazy but if you’re in the bottom 7 in efficiency using Zone 84% of the time why not try something else? You paid Jaycee top 5 CB money use him more effectively. Zone is only efficient if you can generate a good pass rush to force a QB into mistakes otherwise you will get picked apart
    • Good Lord this board has become a cesspool of negativity and where fandom becomes something twisted and unrecognizable.
    • Yeah, I could jump right into the unbelievable Bryce debate now that some people are trying to flip the script because Bryce Young has, at most, a handful of decent games as a pro, but that's going to work itself out. Suffice it to say that I've seen better QBs (with an s) in a Panthers uniform, and I've certainly seen better QBs be drafted while we're playing around with Bryce, one of them who beat the crap out of us already this season... Let's forget about Bryce (and his markedly underwhelming play since he's been here); I think that most sane fans will agree that drafting him was an error, but it happens. Sure, it doesn't happen to the tune of King's ransom---including your main receiver---but it happens. You bet, you lose. Speaking of receivers...and betting and losing... Oh, man, we drafted Xavier Legette. Yes, just like with Bryce, I've entered "the dark side." Some Huddlers were telling us from the beginning, and they were right. But, I'm not apologizing for waiting to see what a guy's got before making my decision on him. X was a one-year wonder at South Carolina who parlayed some really nice production that season, a great personality and thick country accent, into becoming a first round pick (but only in Carolina). For Dan Morgan and company, He was a big swing that has turned into a big whiff (and I can still feel the ill breeze from that one). Sh¡t happens, right? Well, not so fast. Ladd McConkey was the decidedly more polished receiver who was literally ready to hit the ground running as soon as stepping onto the field as a pro. Ladd was never the biggest guy (though not the smallest), but he was the guy that could run routes, always seemed to get open---no question---and had the same speed as X, but with legit quickness and nuanced shake and bake. But Dan chose the project. He chose the guy where the game speed looks more like a tractor trailer than a 5.0 mustang. Look, I've supported X (just like Bryce) many many a day, but no more. Now I'm not saying that I won't root for the guy. Just like with Bryce, he seems like a great kid. But as far as giving excuses for the kid, and, perhaps more importantly, waiting for some miraculous breakout, I'm done with that. I've seen enough. You don't draft a project for a project. And yes, Bryce had proven to be a project after his first season. In my mind, drafting a supposedly number one receiver that needs lots of development for a starting quarterback that needs immediate help to try and further his development is not going to lead to good things. Pick the surest guy. Or at least pick the one who appears to be the surest guy, because picking can be tricky... especially when you're too busy tricking yourself.
